has anyone used the 'new' tire falken came out with to replace the old 615's i am in the market for tires and am stuck between these and star specs... hopefully you folks can help me out as much as possible. just did my forst auto-x and loved it so now its time for some tires

Recently Grassrootmotorsports had them in a review, the performed well, but I don't remember details...

Got em. Like em.
A nice improvement over the previous version, but they still get greasy if you push em too hard.
I thought I could start leaving my water sprayer at home, but I'm glad I brought it to our 2 day event this last weekend.
But then again, at mid 90° temps, just about everybody was spraying their tires.

Grassroots (August 2010 issue) didn't really give them a great review.
In fact, they missed the boat on quite a few points when they said that only the tread compound was changed.

1) Tread compound is softer. (as stated in Grassroots)
Noticable from the get go, in that they stick well right out of the gate on the first run.

2) Stiffer sidewall. (not mentioned in Grassroots)
This allowed me to get down to the low 40's for pressures.
(I'm used to running close to 48-51 psi.)
With the lower pressures, I was hooking up a lot better on turn in when entering a corner.

3) Tread depth is now molded at 8/32" instead of 10/32". (Another thing Grassroots left out)
Again, noticable right away as there's not as much tread squirm on the new tires as before.

Time will tell if they last as long or not as the previous version, but then again,
treadwear is not very high on my priority list when it comes to an Autocross tire.
I want grippage!!!

I really did want to try one of the other newer tires out there, but when it came down to it,
only the 615K and Kuhmo XS come in the 215/45/16 size which I run.
If the Dunlop (Z1 Star Spec) had come in that size, that's most likely what I would have run with instead.

i am looking to go with a 215/40/17 the star spec and azenis is available in both that is where im kinda iffy on
