Hesitation/Surging?

Have owned this 00' Wagon with the Zetec for about a month. Runs great, but I'm noticing a very slight hunting when you apply steady pedal pressure and try and maintain a speed at less that 2500 rpms. The car is very slightly surging and coasting. My wife doesn't notice, but I do and its driving me crazy. It does it in cruise as well, when its trying to maintain a highway speed but the RPM's are low.

Any thoughts? The car is currently dead stock but throwing a P0420 code, which I looked up to mean the rear cat or 02 is gone, but I wouldn't think that would affect the running, would it? My other car has the same type exhaust setup and the rear 02 doesn't affect the actual running of the engine whatsoever.

Thanks,
Ryan

Do an egr workaround from focushacks.com, if its still doing it then you may need a new IAC. Make sure you clear the ecu every time you change something, and run it without the ac or defrost for awhile.

Awesome. Thanks. Found the link for the stumble fix, you have to love it when the required items are a plastic golf tee, hands and zip ties ( optional ).

HA!

I'll try that first, then the IAC.
