I had heard that esslinger engineering, who apparently built those drag cars, did 850 at the crank on a stock block and crank on gasoline turning 8500rpm. When they did 1000+ on alcohol it was with a stock block but forged crank because they were turning 9500 on that motor and were having harmonics issues with the stock crank at those rpms. The reportedly never broke a crank but did have a problem spinning bearings, I guess because of the rpm. They only used a few CGI blocks because they were lighter but apparently did not need the extra "strength"

The WRC/CGI block was designed because everyone was braking blocks , its each ones decision weather they want to go the CGI rought

X3 Looks like book 2 of high performance Ford Focus builder's handbook is out, haven't you got your copy yet Tom

This kid has got no idea about the Zetec motor, if it was so easy to get those number everyone would be doing it.
The stock block and crank can't even handle that type of hp, tq and rpm for that matter!!!!

Kid? I'm almost 27 years old, married with a child. Since when does that make me a kid?

I got this info from some guy, forget his name, I met at the rolex 24hrs of daytona. He said he used to work for Esslinger on the focus stuff back in 2001. He was working for a team on the pit crew I think Miller racing it was Porsche and I had the ultra riveting job of holding the fire extinguisher for Speed Source. I have a friend that works for them full time and whenever they are 1 person short I get to fill in. doesn't happen very often but it is way cool to get to go to some of the events.

Why all the hate? Why would he or I have any reason to lie about any of this? They were drag cars and I doubt any of the motors got used very long without being torn down and having crank, pistons, rods replaced.

I ask because I was around and building the Focus sence 2000 and bought a lot from Esslinger back then and exchanged a lot of info because no one knew a lot about the Zetec at that time and I never saw any of the engines you posted about short of the ones in Sean Carlsons Focus which was CGI and custom billet cranks and rods and dry sump

Why I called you a kid? well you kinda don't know much about the Zetec motor.
Do you know how hard it is to get a N/A Zetec from 100Whp stock to 165-200Whp????
Whoever told you this crap was pulling your camshaft.

Stock block is only good for 400-500Whp, stock crank will only rev to 7000+ but, not well over 8000rpm I know that much.
Stock piston and rods are only good for 250Whp

WRC CGI is made out of cast iron and the stock block isn't.
Do you think this will fit under any Focus road car? this drag car is running 40-60 psi with 8 injectors I'm beting.

Most of this is just wrong.

There are plenty of guys doing or have done 500+ on the stock block and crank, Tom included.

there are a few people who have done 300+whp on the stock engine, Tom included. Not saying it will last along time but it has been done.

There is a guy on this site with a zetec in a fiesta in Europe with a stock block and crank that turns 8500rpm and makes something like 550bhp and plenty of others across the pond with NA zetecs turning over 8-8500rpm.

The stock block IS cast iron but the CGI is some High carbon impregnated cast iron. What ever it is it is the same stuff the Powerstroke blocks are made of.

I may not know everything about the zetec but it appears I know more than you.
