Intake manifold removal

Have to replAce the damn pcv and hose do to a vacuum leak... Any pointers that could help would be appreciated. Nothing looks too bad, but it (shit) usually happens. Only thing im not 100% on is the vacuum hose after the throttle body. Book says to depress a tab..? Doesnt look like any qucik connect ive seen, like fuel ones. I assume the red ring is the "tab", and i push down while pulling the tab up to release it...? Damn man proof tabs/caps!

1. I would so love to meet the that decided to put a preventative maintenance part, or something thats common to go bad in the spot they did.

2. Cannot describe where some of these bolts are. Looks easy on paper. I work on engines day in and day out. All i can say is nobody gave a thought about the technician.

3. Almost dont want another Ford.

4. This is the most important. IT IS WORTH TAKING TO THE DEALER TO CHANGE THE PCV VALVE/HOSE. There is no easy way, maybe you could see it if you removed the starter...lol.

And im only at the halfway point.

Or at least remove the tumble flaps. I thought the flaps allowed air to go through different lenght runners...thats not the case. All it is are flaps right at the exit of the intake mani. HUGE restriction when theyre closed. Regardless im done with performance crap for this car. Pay this turd off, sell most of my parts, use it as a mileage whore, and git me one dem new 5.0's!! Anyways:

5. Dont forget about the egr tube and the knock sensor. Almost forgot the sensor but got lucky getting it with the manifold on.

6. That damn g middle bolt! What a bitch!!!!!

7. PCV valve hold down nut...another really half brained design.

Almost there....

Lol. Had to see this coming. Still have a vacuum leak/bad idle. Its at the egr/cyl 4 intake gasket. The valve looked ok but the hose clamp was almost off. To be continued.......Boy i cant wait.

I remember reading somewhere that it's possible to just remove the whole damn thing and just put a mini air filter on the bugger. Is that the case? 'Cause I've been planning on pulling off the IM to help clean and respray the engine bay for a little bit, and while I was at it, was going to swap the PCV with an air filter instead.

it's in a tight spot, but the IM isn't that much of a pita to remove. it took me less than an hour to take mine off.

for those planning to replace their PCV in the future, you might want to consider buying the plastic plate/cover the the pvc attaches to. The pcv valve is kind of difficult to remove by "pushing in the tabs" and you might mess up the tabs sufficiently that the new pcv valve might not snap into place. You can always use some epoxy and glue it in place if this happens though lol.
