Thumbs down 2012 Ford Focus owners...Radio issue HELP

Hey all,

I bought the wife a used 2012 Focus SE about a year ago and now the radio is all sorts of jacked up...Its now out of warranty and I can't seem to find any info about other people having the same type of issue. I really don't want to take it to ford without a decent idea on what to have them attempt to fix because they'll just charge me their going rate to play around with it and throw parts at it.

Issue:

It started out with the radio giving a semi loud pop and then no use of the radio until the next time you start the car.

Now the radio only works for a short period of time and you constantly hear popping sounds and what almost sounds like static.

You have no use of radio/CD player etc.

Im at a loss here and quite frankly about to shoot the radio or park the car on the highway.

Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert but it sounds like you have an electrical short or loose wire at the back of the radio somewhere. What about taking it to a local stereo shop to see if they can figure it out. They would probably be cheaper than the dealership since most of them farm this type of problem out to stereo shops anyway.

Remove the grill at the bottom of the bezel by pulling straight down on the middle part. Then remove the 2 screws that you expose there and pull outward on the bezel bottom, and then work the top part free by pulling on the edge at the bottom of the screen. Then remove the 2 screws holding the radio in place, pull the radio out and check your connections.

So ford looked at it and told me the everything checks out besides the module itself.

Service guy is calling me back tomorrow to let me know how much a new one will cost.

Not sure if I can find a used one or if I should just look into going aftermarket...

Suggestions?

I found this radio on ebay and the part number is a direct replacement for mine.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/360909298676...witem=&vxp=mtr

What Im wondering is, Will the radio need to be programmed or matched up with the car in any way or is it just a plug and play?

Any help is appreciated.

The eBay radio solved my issue! Found one for $75 shipped and installed it last night.

Swapping the brain of the radio is super easy.

I am having the same problem with my 2012 Focus. I had a dealership check and they said it was the radio. We replaced it in May. Now that radio is popping and cuttiing out the audio. Then it started the popping and cracking. Only way to stop that is to pull the fuse.
Is this a defective second radio or is there something else in the car that is causing the radio to go nuts!

Have you been back to the dealer to have this looked at? Please let me know, along with your mileage.
