Tire Wear / Adjustments
I ran my first autocross on my new Dunlop Star Spec tires a few weeks back.
I have a few questions about how my tires wore, and adjustments. First of all I ran 45 pounds of air in all four tires. My front tires wore well over the wear indicators. The rear tires were well inside the wear indicators. Is this a tire pressure issue? camber issue? or another issue? |

well you have to think about how much your motor weighs, it's gonna smash the tires down a lil more. up them in the front and lose some in the back.
use some chalk on the side walls to help indicate too. it's kinda weird though, i would think star specs could go with less psi then 45? what tire size are you running?

I am running 215/40ZR17.
It could be a front camber issue... Was thinking about going to check out the alignment, but I think I am going to install new springs and struts and that will put me right back at the start. |

I've never needed over 38 psi with Hankook RS2's for front pressures. rear pressures were a couple pounds higher for rotation, but tire brands can react differently. The tires I ran couple weeks ago needed four pounds less in the rear too not to spin out.

If I recall correctly Scott was running 40 pounds in the front of his Star Specs on the same course in his Focus with some suspension work.
I am on a stock SVT suspension. It was a pretty high speed course... |

i thought camber was to make the tire wear more evenly? like the whole contact patch?

Don't take this wrong but you could be way over driving your car into a corner. If you are plowing into a turn and keep trying to turn harder you would be rolling the sidewall more. I have never seen you drive but its what I was taught when I was and still am learning.

What are you alignment specs? Those, along with over driving into corners, could be what is causing your problems.
