Carfax/VIN Check

I know a few people often buy the unlimited Carfax deal when looking to buy a car --

Anyone here willing to run a VIN with their unlimited count?

Oh -- I don't "need" it -- just curious. I already own the car. I just know a couple forums I used to be on people would offer up VIN checks when they had paid for the unlimited package (just to feel like they got good use out of it).

Just thought I'd ask --

I don't put much faith in Carfax - if a dealer takes in a wrecked car & has their body shop do the repairs and not tell anyone, presto a clean report !

All the time i see wrecked vehicles towed towards Mexico.
They all get fixed there but I wonder if the vehicles are driven back all 'repaired'

If you want a cheap carfax, the member Fanat is currently doing VIN checks for $5. He is putting the money towards building a church or something. I know its not free, but it is cheap!

Awesome -- yea he shot me a PM.

Not looking for free -- just a little cheaper advantage if someone already has the whole sha-bang.

I bought mine off CL so I'm just curious. I plan to drive it till it won't go no more...so it's more for curiosity sake. lol

And to have the money go somewhere good -- I think yes!

Thanks!

Great deal from Fanat BTW -- $5 and delivers.

Found out some funny stuff -- though it shows that not everything was reported (clearly has been in an accident). Did learn there were 9 owners, 3 lease periods, and accurate mileage and truth from the guy I bought it from.

Got one of our other older cars run for giggles -- turns out it had numerous owners, was stolen for three days and returned. It also swears it doesn't have a salvage title -- but we bought it with one...

Buying used you always risk it -- carfax will tell you some of the story but never all of it. Fun and well worth it. Props to Fanat for doing this -- plus his money is going towards building a new church...it's all in good works.

So if you are curious -- $5! DO IT. :D
