OMG the new Mazada 3 is fast.

Anyone encountered one of these on the road?
The sporty version that is. The other day I attempted to catch one on the highway and just simply could not.

Ofcourse traffic did not help, I only caught up with him bcs there was a traffic jam upfront, but when he was gunning it, it was almost pointless.

Anyone got the specs on the mazda 3, as in quarter mile times, and hp and tq and is it as upgradable as the civics and foci?

0-60 = 7.86 1/4=16.19@89mph 160hp 150 lb torque

Not that amazing, the SVT Focus would smoke one. The Mazda 3's are very nice cars for the money and don't get me wrong for what you pay those numbers are not bad. Once again they are very nice and both the hatch back and the regular one look very nice. I can't tell which one I like best but I think I would go with the hatch back.

In that case I think he had something going on in that car, like maybe some mild bolt ons
Or maybe there was too much traffic for me to really test him, but kept pulling away in traffic rather fast.

hahaahaha.. tell me why a svt would smoke one? it has 10 less hp, but more torque, unless the mazda 3s are REALLY heavy i dont think a svt would "smoke" it . its basically a focus chassis with a different body and interior, duratec 2.3 upgraded to 160hp and 150 tq .. thats it. and its ugly

i have driven the base model 3 (not the sport version) and it was pretty quick in a straight line. i thoughly enjoyed my test drive. it would definatly take a non-svt focus.

however, around the corners, it doesnt stand a chance... the suspension was definatly not what i was expecting.

i drove the mazda 3's and 6's in "MAZDAREVITUP" when it came to dc...........they had upgraded springs and exhaust...........they were pretty quick on the auto X track, but i'm pretty sure my SVT would take a slightly modded one in a drag, or auto X race

I was the one to bring up the SVT thing and I still stand behind it. I just wanted to say again that in no way am I knocking the Mazda 3, they are very nice looking cars and for the money the performance is very good also. Then again we are talking about family here since Ford owns Mazda its a win win situation.

I hit Rev-it-up when it came to Atlanta, and I was very impressed with the 3. I wanted to get my SVT out on the course, but they wouldn't let me. All of the 3's there were the 's' version manu-matics and thus a little sluggish off the line, but overall it is a very tight package. I would have liked to try a manual and I would say that they would be just one notch behind my SVT in accel and handling. Of course they were running Falken tires that are probably twice as sticky as the Conti's on the SVT, but still. I can't say for sure how the 3s would compare to the SVT on the auto-x style course at rev-it-up, but one of the pros there had an Acura NSX that couldn't beat the 3's... It has a lot to do with the fact that the 3's smaller size was better for the quick tight course, but besting an NSX is still pretty impressive.
