Vibrations from an Aussie '06 2.0

Hi All,

i need some help.

my o6 2L focus vibrates in 1st and second gear(auto). it was really bad so i changed engine mounts which helped but still have the problem. i have been to a few mechanics about this and they dont know what it is.

i can feel the vibration through the steering wheel and the accelerator pedal and also through my foot when on the floor pan.

now on the odd occasion the car vibrates at idle. the car actually feels like it wants to take off this will only happen like 4-5 times a week.

the car runs fine but it is really annoying when first taking off especially when in heavy traffic and having to stop and start all the time.

anyone who has any ideas i would love to hear them.

Cheers

Hmmm...Australia...That looks like an unhappy cheer, I think you were going for more of a .

Could always check your plugs and coil pack...motor mounts were my first idea. What motor mounts did you use? OEM?

No No allways a happy cheers from me. but a frustrated cheers.

No they were not OEM mounts. just an after market brand unsure of the brand actually.
Does that make a difference?

i thought that about the plugs but wouldnt it do it all the time as appose to just when in certain gears and revs?

Made this it's own thread in a better location.

This is tough to guess at from the description, sounds like the vibration is mostly when accelerating in low gears?

Also wonder about the 'feels like it wants to take off". Is the engine speed erratic with it dying or revving up at different times?

Trying to get clues on engine operation vs. transmission/drive train vs. rolling along problems etc.

Could be a number of different items, maybe even more than one. Need to start narrowing it down to guess.

I will 2X that entirely, more than one thing wrong there maybe and tell what a car does when it 'wants to take off' as no way it can do that without wings..............

Virtually all aftermarket mounts here stateside are substandard to OEM Ford ones and most especially if the one on the pass side. Cheap Chinese hard as rock rubber that really does no damping and they break quicker than spit.

the engine speed stays the same the revs do not change in the slightest.
the feel is like you know when you are sitting at lights and you slightly take your foot off the brake and the carstarts to move. but the car isnt moving and the foot is hard pressed on the brake. an example of when it happens i left for work this morning run fine except the vibration is allways there i get half way to work stop at lights the engine started to shake i move along to the next set of lights and the car idled smothly.
i was wondering if maybe that could be a dirty fuel filter thats why only happens very rarely.

it defenately is happening when accelerating in the lower gears.
i know i need new front struts. could this help cause the vibration?

Sounds like it isn't running smoothly, but that is intermittent.

Haven't figured from the story yet if it ALWAYS vibrates when accelerating in lower gears or if that is intermittent as well.

Vibrating when cold & less when warm is a mount thing BTW, if it's smooth at times in all circumstances the aftermarket pass. side mount can be ruled out for now.

yes always vibrates on acceleration but only in 1st and 2nd gear.
doesnt matter if the car is warm or cold it always happens.
on the very odd occasion it will not vibrate but when i say odd i mean its probably only happened 3 times since owning the car. (6 months)

Dunno about this one, best guess right now is an engine that isn't running smoothly & it's noticed most in low gears & occasionally when idling.

Bad enough that should eventually show as a "code" for a misfire, might not have reached that point yet.

No great guesses myself, odd intermittent pattern isn't leading me to any conclusions.

If the OP could confirm rough running, there are plenty of suggestions here on where to start for that. NOT having it happen consistently leaves me unsure of the problem.
