Unless you plan to do lots of R&D and buy lots of different springs until you get exactly what you want, coil-overs aren't going to be worth the extra expense. Koni/H&R is a proven combination.

Yes, if you spend the time and effort to do the following:
-Test to determine best (custom) spring rate
-Corner weight the car to get best balance
-Dyno the dampers to get best damping setup/adjustment

The advantage of coilovers in autox/racing is the ability to run a variety of spring rates and balance the car, if you're not going to do that, there is no real advantage IMO.

If you are not going to speed the money for top dollar coilovers, H&R race and koni yellows are the way to go, especially if you plan on driving to events:) Also, you can have your konis matched to the springs, also a big help.

awesome info.
i would spend the time tweaking those things for sure. that's what they are for.
a local in my region has a corner balancer and he's let others use it and i'm sure he'd let me use it as well so that part is covered.

my car is not daily driven and is only used for racing, i just don't have a truck or trailer to haul it. but our venues aren't THAT far away from where i live so it wouldn't be that bad driving it to and from, right?

which are top dollar coilovers? the Motons? anything else?

the only reason i toss this out there is because if i'm going to spend close to 1k for a suspension set (shocks struts and springs) why not save the rest for a solid coilover suspension that would eventually be better for racing?
i don't mind waiting till next season to have the set up, as long as it's better in the long run.
because seriously at this point (rookie season) i have no idea what a well set up car feels like, but that will come with more seat time. i'm just looking for what is better down the road, because this "hobby" i've gotten into, isn't going away anytime soon!! way too much fun.

lol, yep i saw that.
but 1k would make a dent in the total price. go big or go home, ya know?

edit: i'm not looking to go to nationals or anything like that.. i just want the best bang for my buck
and have an edge over some locals.

Indeed...check SCCA classing for external reservoir/multi-adjustable shocks & struts though.

i think i may have answered my own question..
to compete locally, i don't think i'll need much more then the konis and H&R set up. paired with LCR camber plates, sticky tires and the zts rear sway, i think this should be just fine for what i want to do.

i guess sometimes you just need to BS with people to get your head on straight!
