Yes of course, how else would you be able to the pull the axle? Though I guess you could leave them in the knuckles but they will be dangling and would be in the way. Just look in the How To section there is a how to for it.

That's what i suspected, just wanted to make sure since you already did that stuff so know it first hand.

I'm disassembling all suspension anyway so it's not a problem, but the pain is that now I need to get transmission and swap it before I reassemble it all back again, so I don't have to do it twice, and it means much longer downtime for my blue b!tch. Sharing one car with woman who works in different part of town = not fun :P

btw, can't see the HOW TO for it, and already searched page for 'transmission' 'getrag' 'clutch'

I would wait to tear it apart till you have all the parts you need. You can easily loose bolts, parts, or plain ole' forget how it goes back together. It wasn't that much fun figuring out where everything went on the SVT being that I wasn't the one that pulled the transmission. Heck I couldn't even find the crank position sensor and O2 sensor plugs if it wasn't for Zab looking and seeing it (was tucked into the radiator fans) and I thought I looked everywhere in the engine compartment.

yes, you are right, I will take a lot of photos and write down as much as possible, put labeled bolts in their related plastic boxes, etc....

thing is that I already have all the suspension and brake parts (minus rear lower control arms, all new bolts and axle nuts, ran out of $ so have to wait few days) so I want to start working on it, replacing it all (only knuckles will be left and reconditioned).
I will start with that, but just wont reassemble front suspension till I get new transmission up there all bolted and ready.

btw, can't see the HOW TO for trans replacement, and already searched page for 'transmission' 'getrag' 'clutch'

thanx, .... but there is no images in this guide anymore :P

hehe, first lesson from today = I need a bigger breaker bar :D
tho actually I was surprised that I managed to deal with most of the bolts, maybe attacking em with PB blaster for last 3 days did have some effect, and only the "rear-inner" bolts of front control arms remained indifferent to my efforts.
Hope manpower can win, and there will be no need to cut em off... cause I never did that and have a friend who is half blind because he tried to do something like this on his bike without safety googles... :/
(ya, thanks to his example, and some other examples I know which included people working on chemicals, I always wear eye protection, even when everyone around thinks it's funny and not really needed)

Got set of brushes for metal surface reconditioning so I will try to restore knuckles and spindles which are very very rusty, that would save me some serious coin over having to buy new/reman ones.

Are you using gravity to help you break those bolts loose?

what do you mean exactly? :P those bolts work on horizontal axis so no way to put my weight on it. But anyways problem is in the tolls, can't go 100% on them, I fell something is gonna break before I even get close to my limit.

What does this mean? They may be horizontal but you should still be able to use a lot of weight on them to get them off same way you would a lug nut
