2013 Focus SE Spare Key / FOB

Hi all. I have a 2013 Focus SE. My daughter keeps locking the key in the car. She just keeps forgetting etc. The locking button is on the middle console and she keep doing wrong etc. I want to get a plain spare key cut without the FOB or the chip. It would be like blank key and just used to unlock door. (I did this on my previous Focus) Then I would hide the key underneath in magnet box. Is this possible ? The key has an inside cut on it and I'm have hard time finding someone. No locksmiths around my areas cut keys like this The dealer wants over $250. Or can I reprogram an addtional spare FOB to open the doors and hide it ?? Your help is appreciated....Ron

It might be easier to just reprogram a spare FOB. I had to do this w/ my '09 focus. I bought it used and the dealer only had one key/fob.

So I took my old fob from my '07 focus and reprogrammed it and while I still only have one key I have two fob's. So at least if I get locked out I can still open the door w/ my spare (since good / honest locksmiths are hard to find).

You can buy a 4 button FOB (no key) on ebay for less than $10 shipped.

Problem is the instructions for programming it in my owners manual seem to imply that it has to have the key attached because the last step is to insert the new key into the ignition switch and turn it to on. Maybe someone who knows if it can be done another way will chime in.

Well, just found this. $29.95 to cut a key.

And here's a key you can get for about the same price. Not sure if they'll cut a key bought elswhere but you can ask. Beats the dealer price by about $200.

You should buy a keyless-entry, it's on Ford's website for about $100. Then she will NEVER be locked out ever again.
