Raced my buddy tonight

He's got an 02 focus stock 5 speed. I've got an 03 ATX with a Magnaflow Exhaust. Not sure if he was just messin with me or not, but I was able to keep up with him, which suprised me. Plan on getting my Volant intake ordered this weekend, what will it take for me to blow him away? I can keep up, but I still think he'll beat me as of right now. We only got up to about 100 then we both let off.

You only got to 100? Exactly how much faster did you think you could go?

I got one because my wife occasionally drives it. Worst decision ever. The auto in my car is the worst of the worst. I can't even explain what a p.o.s. the automatic is.

I'll tell you exactly why I have an ATX. I wrecked me Zx2 my Freshman year of college aka March 2003. My mom had to drive to focus up to Tallahassee from South Florida, and she can't drive stick. There you go... Anyways, just looking for useful info. for making it faster...

i got my atx, cuz my mom has to drive it a lot and can not drive stick, so i just deal with it, i will build up the atx over the winter to benefit my racing as i will begin to start bracket racing it next season....but pimp, as for mods, u got the exhaust, plus u live in florida, no emissions correct?...id say go for the intake now, then save up for a race header and flex combo and id say u will definitly beat him...good luck!! ;)

I didn't have any clue how to drive manual when I first got the car. going from the guys house I stalled like 10 times at a stop sign trying to get going (I let my dad drive it home after that). After a couple days I was fine and know I'm a stick machine and I'm lovin it. I couldn't see myself ever driving an atx car ever again, unless my body can't handle it when I get older, but that won't be for a while so I'll have all the fun I can for now.

here are my reasons for the ATX

1.) the only manuals had NO options at all, not even a cd playa for my rockin tunes
2.) LOTS of hills where i live. and im not talkin small little hills, im talkin steep ass inclines (washington for ya) especially in seattle.
3.) got a good deal on it

which leads me to 4.)

ATX = THE ULTIMATE SLEEPER

that, and the auto (although not as fun to drive as a stick) is more consistant with shifting so i can get more consistant 1/4 times.

p.s. with the exception of 2 cars, every car i have killed were manuals, and the guys knew how to drive em. the other 2 were auto :D

dont underestimate the ATX.

i can totally understand your reasons for havin an atx, but the "hill" reason is one you should have left out.

i think a mtx would be better for conquering steep hills. Yeah there's the issue of roll-back, but once you learn how to drive mtx, that problem is eliminated.

not that i'm knocking a atx. i've never driven a atx focus.
