Exclamation Bad MPG threads LOOK HERE FIRST.......

Every winter we get DOZENS of threads all asking the EXACT same thing.... why does my milage suck.

There is one simple answer.... and most of you dont believe it.

WINTER BLEND GAS HAS DIFFERENT CHEMICALS IN IT......... IT DROPS YOUR MILAGE!!!!!!!

The chemicals they use in winter gas it to keep the gas from freezing in your tank, lines, fuel pump, ect.... but as a side effect your milage drops.

Its a fact of life, stop bitching about it, there isnt SHIT you can do about it.

Not to mention the fuel used warming a cold engine (rich mixture), repeatedly on short trips...
spinning tires in the slop....
extra drag pushing through snow, slush,water...
beating up the poor engine "letting it warm up" at idle in your driveway...
etc. etc. .....

I dunno, the way some of these threads go, you'd think people are losing half their mileage. I've never had a car lose more than 2-3 mpg on average in the winter.

And I'm one of those crazy bastards who won't run the heat til the engine warms up (it warms up much faster anyway).

I keep track of MPGs all the time.....and have done so for many years.

I can tell you this '06 of mine (automatic) loses more MPGs in the winter, than any other car or truck I've ever owned. My previous '95 Sentra (automatic) only lost 2-3 MPGs in the winter. Driven exactly the same, my Focus is twice as bad. These cars are not very good with gasoline under any conditions.....
