Battery light issue

2002 Focus ZX3 Zetec

It would come on intermittently at first. Alt was putting out 14.6, batt was at 12.9 so, i soldered a new pigtail on, same issue but the light stayed on after about 20 seconds. Went and had the auto parts store check the electrical. Alt good battery bad. So I picked up an Optima. Put it in and same issue. Ordered a new alt. Put it in this afternoon, Re-soldered the pigtail just to be sure and, same friggin issue.

I am at a total loss here peeps and I need some advice.

ECU? It is not throwing any codes at all.

Thanks in advance.

Check the grounds and the wiring harness.

Make sure belt tensioner not hanging up or dragging, if so belt runs loose and the system detects not quite optimum charge. A really old belt could be slipping as well, the new ones don't show any cracks as an age warning, they simply wear so much they begin to slip as the V in pulley hits bottom of belt groove and not enough friction on sides to pull the driven pulley properly.

Make sure battery terminals are tight, you think they are but commonly not if using factory clamps. Grab terminal and see if you can twist it, if so fix.

Run the main charging lead down, several ways it can cause trouble at the back of motor.

I had this issue.
It ended up being a broken signal wire. So if your alt is putting out 14volts or so that means the alt is doin its job and you can drive without issue, but the blue(i think its blue) wire that runs to the alt is broken and its that wire that is responsible for your pesky Light.
Mine was broken about six inches away for the alt terminals. I was lucky enough to notice the tell tale green copper corosion leaking out of the wire and when i bent it then it just fell in half.
hope that helps.

I will look at it as far back as I can. I have driven it about 100mi on two trips so far so good. Thanks.
