Question Front License Plate Help

This has probably already been asked, but I couldn't find it. If it has, could someone please provide me with the link to that thread? Thanks.

So this was the scene yesterday. My mom sent me a plate for the front of my car. I go to put it on the car. Realize that there are no holes in the front of the car to attach the plate to. I call the local Ford Dealership and explain my problem. They tell me that I have to get a mounting kit for it. Luckily they have one in stock, so I go to pick it up. The mounting kit consists of 4 bolts which are identical to the ones I'm holding in my hand. I explain that there are still no holes in the front of the car, so the bolts won't help. The parts guy comes out to look at my car, and sees that I'm right (gee, a girl be right about something on a car?!?! Go figure). So he tells me that I can drill holes in the car to put the tag on.

Hear that?? Those are the warning bells going off in my head.

I ask if there's anything behind there that I could damage by attacking the front of my poor, defenseless car with a drill. He says there shouldn't be.

The warning bells get louder.

So I ask how much it would cost for them to drill the holes for me. He tells me that they can't make any "non-Ford authorized modifications" to my car.

Those bells have now been joined by a big red flashing light and the Robot saying "DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER".

So my question is this--*CAN* I drill holes in the front of my car without taking out anything important (I'm having images of the air bags exploding in the car)? And if so, what size bit should I use and how deep should I make the holes?

shouldnt be anything back there, just a bunch of foam, you could always look behind the bumper....... your bumper is thin and the bit will go through pretty fast, make them small enough that the bolts will tap in there, your dealer should be able to do it, it is not adealer option so much is it is a dealer MUST, they do it all the time, they are supposed to be pre drilled in there for you if im not mistaken, ohnestly id avoid the holes and find another mounting method if possible, but i like to take mine off and see no holes

Yeah, once I got my Focus, I had to put a sweet 49ers license plate on the front. But of course, there were no holes. So, my dad just whipped out a power drill and put two small holes in it. It took like 30 seconds, is totally level, and looks great to any Niners fan.

There should be some very small intentations where the two top license plate screws should go. I know on the focus bumpers I have seen there is. That is how mine is installed. As long as you don't use 4" nails or something long like that, you'll be fine.....

Side note: I got a ticket for not having a front plate (illegal here) which sucked so I installed the plate by screwing through the bumper. Guess what, damn government decided to go to a one plate system so now I need to leave both on to hide the screw holes. Sucks!

Those are there, but they're not in the place where the holes in the plate are. And I'm not worried about having holes in the front bumper of my car, cause I don't plan on taking the plate off. I was considering using magnetic strips but then realized that probably wouldn't last too long on the front of the car.

Thanks for the help everyone!

i just took off my plate, doesnt look to bad (though there are two holes in the front). But they are small enough to not be too noticable.

My car came with the holes in the front. Maybe it's because in CA we have to have a front plate.

How is it that a kit you're buying from Ford is a "non-Ford authorized modification"? Isn't it the "factory" kit?
