My needs for a new car included a hatch. There aren't many good choices out there for hatchbacks. I researched and looked and test drove til I was getting frustrated. THen I read about this new Ford. Now I own one.

I wanted a hatch soooo bad but every dealer that I saw one at had them sold before I could get at one. I remeber pulling up to the closest dealer to my house and there was a sterling grey SE hatch parked there. I walked in and asked about it but the buyer was already there signing the papers. I think I'll just enjoy what I have now for about a year when they become more common. Then I'll get the SEL-Ti hatch or the ST if not too expensive.

I really like the design there is just one fatal flaw for me and that is they are not offering a 3 door version. I really love 3 doors because I hardly ever use the back seat and if I do it's not hard for people to get back there. On top of that I'm fairly tall at 6'5" so I keep the seat all the way back and in the 3 door focuses this works out great because you have the bigger door/window. But in the 5 doors when you have the seat all the way back and you turn your head or in your peripheral all you see is the pillar. Plus 3 doors just look more sporty.

I like the design. I was going for a Sedan but the dealers didn't have one that fit my requirements so I jumped for the hatch. I think I made a good choice :)

I didn't like it at first, but the design is growing on me. It's sporty and unique. I just wish that they made a 3-door version (I personally drive a 2005 ZX3) and I wish that they got better fuel economy (the 2012 Focus I believe gets 28mpg in the city. My next car will need to get better than 30mpg in the city)

I got the SEL hatchback and like its looks better than any of its direct competitors. What I really like is driving it, except for it requiring continuous small steering corrections at highway speed to keep it in a straight line. I still dont know if that's a problem with my car or 2012 Focuses in general. If it's an engineering defect, I hope Ford corrects it.
I think they did a great job on the interior. Overall, I feel my car was a bargain. It's not a family car, but I don't have a family. It'd make a great commute car because it's fun to drive and get's good mileage. The sony radio isn't spectacular but it's better than entry level. My Touch is going to be great once I learn how to work it and microsoft or whoever gets a few bugs worked out. The auto climate control works great and the a/c is plenty strong enough for my black car in north texas.
If this car didn't have a six (or more) speed auto transmission, I wouldn't have bought it. People have complained about the manual shifting being on the gear shift rather than paddles on the steering wheel, but I like it where it is. Maybe people who race prefer paddle shifters. I had an RX8 with paddles on the wheel for the 6 speed auto trans, I don't race, and I prefer the rocker on the gearshift.
I thought I'd never buy another stick shift, but the turbopowered version of this car may change my mind. I wish Ford would do an autoshift turbo also. That would be my car.

I love the design, so much so that I just ordered a 2012 titanium.

I like the sedan design better than the hatchback personally but both look great. I really like the wheel arches as they give the car more of an aggressive look. The rear view on the sedan is great too as there seems to be alot more camber in the rear wheels than previous models of the focus. This also helps with the more aggressive look. The central door handle "convex line" contrasts nicely with the lower "concave line" on the doors. The front facia is ok. Personally I would have like to have seen a more aggressive look like the ST upfront. But, hopefully ford performance group will sell an ST aerokit package. They have already mentioned body kits for the Fiesta. If they sold the WRC fiesta body kit I would be posting on the fiesta forum right now.

As far as the getrag powershift gearbox is concerned, I can tell you from experience with the 997.2 Turbo getrag / borg warner PDK Porsche gearbox that they cannot handle more than 580 hp up from the stock 500 hp. So I think this gearbox won't be able to handle to much more power in the focus. Here is a video of the gearbox....

It's not torque steer. Others posters on this forum have mentioned the issue as well as a magazine article. I've got almost 1500 miles on the car and it seems less pronounced maybe because I'm getting use to it but I still have to maintain constant vigilance especially at highway speeds. But for that issue, I'd give the machine an A double plus for fun to drive. If you get an automatic, get it with the select shift. Comes standard with sel and titanium- option on others. I'm too lazy to work a stick shift and I wouldn't have considered the car if it had anything less than a six speed automatic. Seven would be better. Also get the upgrade suspension- I bought this sel off the lot and it didn't have it. The stock suspension is really good and can only imagine what the upgrade would be like. My other car cratered and I needed a car when I bought it- only one I could find anywhere around DFW metro area that I wanted. I checked a week or so ago, and less around here now and the rest of Texas than when I bought mine two months ago. I still look forward to driving the car everytime I have to go somewhere which I can't say for any other auto I've owned including at 2006 RX8 with a six speed automatic; the fun hasn't worn off this Focus.
