Here's some info about MkIII Focus:
99.9% possible-
3 door hatchback,coupe-cabriolet,estate will be made because all big players (at least here in EU) have those body styles.
1.6 and 2.0 L ecoboost engines, 2.0 new naturally aspirated, upgraded diesel 1.6 and 2.0
50% possible-
RS model will be produced together by RS and SVT team
1% possible-
New RS will have 2.0 L turbo engine 305 hp and AWD (upgraded AWD since there's Ford Kuga SUV with AWD on C1 platform)

But I still can't find dimensions and spec of the new Focus.
And the most important trim level and price.
Guess we'll have to wait untill euro motor show in Geneva or somewhere...

-I don't remember when was the last time I spend this much time on this forum...can't wait to see new focus in person...(like I'm the only one)..

This new torque vectoring differential they are talking about, is it new altogether, or just new to this model? Anybody have any idea where it came from? Any similarities to the Quaffe (SP?) or Torsen differentials?

Loving the new looks, although the front end grills are going to take some getting used to.

This is my first post here, I am thoroughly excited about this new Focus! I have a couple questions that I hope someone knows the answers too...

Anyways, in the hatch version, the headlight cluster has 3 horizontally arranged lens and then the park/turn signal lens on the bottom... My first question is, what are all these lenses for? The outside ones are the low beam projector headlights... The middle one is the high beam... But what are the inside ones for? I can't think of a reason for them... Also, it doesn't look as though the sedan is getting the same projector style head lights?

Also, does the hatch have an LED light strip across the top of the headlights?

The "hatch", if You can call it that, looks like a Nissan Rogue. The sedan looks like a Scion tC. And unless the US gets a performance model, that is exactly what the Global Focus will be competing with.

I want that steering wheel and those seats. Oh, and SYNC.

I really admire Alan Mulally for what he's done at Ford. But I think he's wrong in one important respect. To quote him from a NY Times article on Sunday:

"Gunnar Herrmann, head of the Focus project, recalled how Mr. Mulally kept referring to his years of developing airplanes that were the same no matter where they flew.

“He said, you guys are always doing multiple doors on these cars; at Boeing, we have only one door,” Mr. Herrmann remembers......

When it came to designing the exterior of the vehicle, the team faced a quandary. Whereas European and American buyers appreciate flair, Chinese consumers, in particular, have more conservative tastes. In the past, Mr. Herrmann, said, Ford would have designed separate bumpers and headlights for the different markets. That approach, however, wouldn’t fly with Mr. Mulally."

The thing is last time I checked airlines don't base a large part of their decision to buy a Boeing based on how it looks. Buying a car is done partly with your head and partly with your heart. Long term Mulally risks ignoring the heart part at his peril.

Look at the current Toyota lineup. I find it to be for the most part utterly boring. So while their vehicles perform, you won't find me buying one any time soon. This boringness is a consequence of trying to make one design suit everyone worldwide. As such you reach the lowest common denominator in terms of emotional appeal.
I don't think Mulally was blind to regional differences because even with the new 787 plane (And those before it) there are multiple configurations of it to suit different airlines, but then the plane themselves are all designed by one team. You don't have a Boeing Europe designing one type of jumbo jet to european airline specifications and Boeing America designing another type of jumbo jet with different airframes and engines to suit American specifications. It's one plane that shares 80% of it's parts from plane to plane while the other 20% is configuration differences.

You have to understand that's what Mulally was brought in to do though. He was brought in to save the company. The company could not make money on small cars and that was exactly the market the focus was being shifted to by consumers paying $3-$4 a gallon gas. The only true way to get those costs under control is through economy of scale. The best way of doing this is to have commonality between as many different models as possible. Doing it as you suggest to broaden the appeal to different regions would bascially fracture the market and basically make the car a niche model in every market, which would be hell to keep track of and would then require seperate teams to manage it and then you're right back in the mess you started from.
