How long should I expect a Focus engine to last? Shopping for a used Focus

Hi all, my first post here. I'm shopping for a used Ford Focus and I'm looking at 2005-2006 models(ZX4s mostly). Could someone give me an idea about how many miles their engines are usually expected to last? The cars in my price range usually have 60K to 80K miles (2.0L, 4 cylinders). I know it depends on how it was treated, but I'm wondering how good their engines will be when they near 100K (will they need to be rebuilt etc), assuming an average level of care an maintenance.

One reason I'm asking is that I want to be able to resell it at a reasonable price once I get it above 100K in a few years. However I've been looking at ads for a while and there are not many Focuses for sale that have more than ~120-130K. Most of them are actually under 100K. That makes me think that people sell theirs before they put many miles on them and it loses value pretty fast after ~100K. Any ideas? Thanks in advance :)

Take a look on the 100k+ mile thread here. that should give a rough idea. Most engines in the focus with good maintenance will run 200k easily

but like any vehicle, the common thought is that after 100K they do loose value because of repairs that will have to be made. you can make any engine last, its just a matter of if you want to spend the money to do so.

depending on how many miles you think you will put on the car. if you buy the car with 60k-80k miles it may be 2-5 years before you could hit the 100k mark.

It's like throwing a dart at a board with mileages on it. THere's a lot of variables involved.

I got 150k on mine. And the 06-07 have better engines.

But becasue of the mileage, the car isnt worth a pile of beans to anyone else. Its only worth something to me.

i think with proper maintenance a Zetec will last damn near forever. High-mileage resale value is non-existant, but if you keep it for a long time it doesn't matter.
