Constant Re indexing?

This is just getting obsurd, I have a USB hard drive attached to my MFT system with about 7400 songs and about every other drive it re indexes itself.

While it is re indexing it slows the whole system down and causes every other system to lag or not respond (like navigation.)

I have run all the files with through SyncMyITunes, deleted any empty folders, done master resets, etc.

The dealer has already re installed the latest update per my request, didn't make a difference. The tech stated he thought my Galaxy S3 phone was causing all the problems since it's not supported officially. I don't buy it.

For reference it did this same thing when I had a 16 GB hard drive attached to the system.

It's only getting worse, slower to index, and no longer displaying album art.

Anyone else experienced this or found a fix? Is this a sign of a dying APIM I have read about?

My 09 has been doing the same thing in the last few months. I don't have that many songs, so I didn't notice taking a longer time. It does however index almost every startup. I was hoping the software update would fix it, but if you say it didn't help, I have no idea what to try next.

Moved to CarAudio, Sync, MFT, and Electronics. This forum should get you the best answer. General Technical Chat is for electrical problems, car running problems, warranty issues, and mechanical problems.

If these people can't help you, then go to your user CP where you send messages. Type "FordIVTeam" in the "To" box. I might have spelled that wrong, but it should come up. Either that or send a PM to "FordCustomerService" and ask them what the screen name is for the people who help out with MFT issues. We have some Ford reps on site who do that.

Thanks for posting!

This has definitely been an issue for me since v3.5.1 (and if you go over to SMR you will see it has been an issue for a lot of owners since 3.5.1). I am using the same iPod with, for the most part, the same music library since I got my car. It didn't do this with v2.11, it didn't do it with v3.0.2 (plenty of other issues w/3.0.2 but not this "constant reindexing" one), it has to reindex 5-7 times a week with v3.5.1. Over at SMR people using Zunes have reported the issue, people using USB drives have reported the issue, and people like myself using iPods have reported the issue so it not device dependent.

Not sure if indexing is dragging the system down or Nav is dragging the system down because if I leave the home screen up the entire indexing/building voice commands process takes about 15 min all in for me (just over 6,200 songs) but if I have the map screen up it takes almost 2 1/2 hours.

heh.

Reminds of the bug with Windows Media Center. a corrupted video can cause the indexing service to get stuck in a loop, eating up all system resources. The tricky part is finding the corrupted video when it happens.

I've found it helpful to have no other files on the drive except mp3's.

Hi, everyone -

I've reported this issue to our engineers. Once I have more information, I'll pass it along.

Please stay tuned.

I was googling this exact issue, however it is MFT in my mom's new Escape. I got her a 16 gig USB drive and filled it up (i have one in my Fusion and just copied everything over I had on it). Today when she left work it automatically started playing the USB drive on it own when she started it up and it was playing the first track (alphabetically). I think it sounds like it started to reindex it and started at the top even though the USB drive wasn't changed. I'm thinking it'd be the same issue as MFT with a Focus since it's all pretty much the same.... but you know what happens when you assume haha.
