worth or not worth

I found a 2001 Focus SE Wagon 5spd in white for sale at $3500 but it has oil spilling from valve cover and emergency brakes are bad. I drove it for over 30 mins and it drive like new. Is it worth buying or not? And how hard is it to fix valve cover and emergency brakes?

forgot to add it has 148k miles!

brakes are really easy... the valve cover shouldnt be too hard if you know what you are doing.... use kbb.com when buying and nada when selling. thats the rule of thumb.....

I'd try to get it down a little less than that, like 2900. And that's assuming the oil leak is fixable pretty easily.

Offer low and bring up the problems when making the offer. Other than that I'd say it's worth it. 5-speed Wagons are pretty rare.

Just for reference. I just bought a 2001 ZX3 5Spd with no Mecahnical problems for 3750. 96K Miles

I'd shoot for that 2900 as well.

Both are easy fixes.

easy fixes yes, but those are the only problems you KNOW of. Wagon or not I'd offer 2k flat and walk (not alot buyers are interested in leaking cars). It's 8 years old w/149k, (whats the maintenance history?), with two obvious problems. Definitely not worth 3500.

Wow. There was a 2003 Wagon in my area with 55K miles for 4200. Very clean but automatic. I went to see it and some older guy tried to sell it cause he bought a new car. I thought that was too much and I didn't bought it :(

Five-speed wagons are rare enough to bring a bit of a premium in the used market, from what I've seen. The valve cover leak fix may be as easy as a new gasket and a retorque of the cover's bolts after a few hundred miles. The e-brake fix may need nothing more than a cable adjustment; if anything's corroded badly enough to seize up, the parts are few and cheap enough. I think the wagon sounds as though it might be worth $3K and a bit of a fix-up, if everything else is up to snuff.
