Can Fords #'s Be Beat?? YES..

Purchased my 09 SES Coupe In mid Aug. and have put on a couple of Mods, FSW Intake, MagnaFlow Catback 2 1/4'' Exhaust, and a SCT Tune.
I drive 49 miles to work one way, not counting any driving after work, around 100 miles a day, 4 days a week. Ford advertise 35 mph Highway @ 55 mph
Before the Mods I was AVG. @ 65 MPH Around 32 to 33.8 MPG
Before the mods I was at 119 +or- 1 HP AND SAME ON TQ, With the mods I have moved to around
35 to 36.9 MPG @ 65 MPH and Power 132 + or - Hp and 133 TQ ALL #'s are @ the wheels. With the cost of fuel, 91 octane $2.65 gal. I will be saving $133.00 a year just on fuel.

$$$$ for new mods
We did look @ other cars for the same retail and mpg, 36 mpg $17,000,00

33 mpg $16,900.00

35 mpg $19,000.00

35 mpg $22,000.00

:::: Trust me it's hard only driving 65 mph but I really wanted to know the #'s
This is over a 7 week drive.

I would much rather drive this

Ps:: My sticker price was $19,700.00
I Bought it for $10,060.00
I WON............

so if your saving 133$ a year in just fuel from your mods, it'll only take what about 6.5 years to recoupe the money you put into your mods from saving gas.

modifying a car isnt meant for really saving gas, because in order to save gas you have to offset the cost of the parts first, then you'll in theory start saving gas.

the rating for fuel economy isn't for 55 mph anymore that's why they adjusted the fuel rating system in 08. aug was the cash for clunkers program. yes??http://www.edmunds.com/advice/fuelec...6/article.html

not to burst your bubble, but when you factor in the 20 cent price increase for premium fuel over regular, driving 400 miles a week for 52 weeks a year comes out to an annual fuel cost of:

Regular Unleaded
32 MPG @ $2.45/gal: $1592/year
33.8 MPG @ $2.45/gal: $1506/year

Premium Fuel
35 MPG @ $2.65/gal: $1574/year
36.9 MPG @ $2.65/gal: $1491/year

Compare the lowest number from regular and premium fuel and then the highest number from the same, you get a annual fuel savings of:

$18 - $15/ year

Is that really within a significant difference? I am not going to conduct the math to figure it out, but even if it is, it's not a lot of money saved though better fuel economy.

This also doesn't account for other factors that could affect MPG throughout the year, like weather conditions and fuel blends. Not sure if this was a longitudinal experiment or kinda a before/after on a couple tanks of gas.

I will recognize that although it is a smaller fuel savings when factoring the increase cost of premium fuel, having extra horsepower does weigh in significantly to the value of paying for those mods in the first place. If those mods were done PURELY for saving fuel, then it'd be a waste of money, since it would take 58 years of driving 20K miles/year to offset the cost of those mods.

But congrats on the car, you definitely got it for a great price. It looks way better than the others too- and now you have a little extra horsepower without costing you more money in fuel. So in the end, I think that is still a win-win situation
