Windshield replacement question.

I had a stone chip repaired a little over a year ago (6/08) and now a spider crack has started to develope. My insurance company wants to replace it with a no name one. My question, is there any difference between an OEM Ford windshield and a no name replacement one? Thanks in advance for your help.

There can be quality differences between OEM and aftermarket brands. I'd push your insurance company to make sure they use an OEM one. Nothing worse than looking thru a windshield for the next few years that is distorted.

Safelite is probably one of the few aftermarket companies I'd not feel iffy about using, but that's based on past experience with them.

make sure it has Ford's name on it!! your asking for trouble if not. many aftermarket glass doesnt even come with the strip at the bottom for the cowl trim to connect into.

i currently am on my 3rd windshield.

The newer models have acoustic glass. If OEM has it and the replacement isn't acoustic glass be prepared for some extra wind noise.

I no longer use safelite. the last 1 i had in my focus was replaced due to a "wave" right across the viewing area, i've also had this with an oem too.
do not look at it in the shop, take it outside in natural ight and sit in it as you usually would. look up, down, left right, and then move forward and backward. if there seems to be anything wierd about it do not accept the work.
the one windshield I had was actually so bad that the bounce from the joints in the road made me sea sick due to the wave in the glass. the wave caused sort of a magnifying effect

Thats nuts goinloco, my dad works at safelite, he's one of their best techs and so far he hasnt had any issues like that or complaints from anyone like that. well as far as i know.

anyway, i'd go with an OEM windshield just because, keep it stock, keep it quality. :p

Lol.....let me chime in here. Right B4 FF09, I had my windshield replaced. I called a local guy (Allglass) and he had it in around 30minutes and the charge was 225......not bad right. Then it rained, the whole in side of the car got wet. He came back and yanked it, resealed it and it was off to ff09 I went. Okay, so I felt like a piece of bacon in the skillet on the way down to Centerville, due to cheap glass that was installed. I'm serious, I was burning up in there. The windshield split around the mirror anyway, so he comes back out to replace it. This time he broke the trim on my pillar and got tar on my headliner. Not to mention, wiped his hand prints off with his t-shirt( on my hood), scratched it all up. Last week, the windshield split again, same spot( around the mirror). I called someone else for 185 and threatened him with immediate death if the windshield was shoddy or if he screwed up my car in any way, even showed him the gun and the hollow points. All seems well so far........
