Windshield wipers not working

Driving home tonight my windshield wipers got stuck in the up position after I activated the "single" wipe function. Nothing happens when the switch is in any position, slow, fast or int. I can hear hear the motor turning when I activate them but nothing happens so I was thinking this wasn't the relay problem that most other people are having? Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? Should I still be hearing the wiper motor "trying" to work if this was a fuse or relay problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

im not 100% sure on the foci, but on most cars ive seen theres just a splined rod that goes into the arm at the base, some of them plastic that sheer off and spin freely with the arm staying still, im not sure how possible it is to haven them both sheer off at the same time, just take a quick look at the linkage and whatnoe under the cowling.

You're going to have to pull the cowl cover and see what is going on. Something is wrong with the wiper regulator assembly under there. Once you get the cowl off, turn the wipers on if you can't figure out what the problem is as soon as you see it.

Have you ever removed wiper arms before? You'll have to remove those in order to see the wiper regulator, and I think the motor is on the other side. That's not your problem though. If you can hear the motor working, then it's ok. Something is loose, missing, or damaged.

Yes, I took the cover off this morning. What's the correct way to get the arms off anyway? It looked like the two nuts on top did nothing to hold them on. So I found the problem, it was the lower arm of the wiper mechanism, the one the driven directly from the motor. It appears the it is held on by some "press on" type of nut? At least I assumed they were press on since the nut casing is rounded so you can't get good grip on them.

Does any one know if you can replace these since it was way to easy to pop the arm on and off so I'm sure i'll be having this problem a lot. Thanks for the help.

Those press-on balls are not replaceable that I have ever been able to find on any make or model. You need to replace that transmission arm, or I did fix an arm once upon a time on a vehicle I had that they were no longer made for with some epoxy and time. I simply popped the arm back on and put some epoxy on it in such a way that I built back up what had been worn off over the years to make it hold again. In my case, it worked perfectly. You should be able to get that arm, or they may only sell it as a whole assembly which will suck for price but may be the best way due to the other ball sockets being worn equally. You could source the part from the junk yard too.
