my day at the drag strip 1/8th mile

well today was the last day at winterport dragstrip , so i figured ive never done it before so what the hell.

the first 5 runs were time trials and the last run was a elimination bracket race for money and i lost to a 67 chevelle running 7.5s , i had about a 3.5 second headstart and he only beat me by a hair. track was 1/8th mile.

first run

reaction: .0816
60: 2.775
330ft: 7.339
mph: 62.94
finish: 11.123

second run

reaction: 1.053
60: 2.793
330ft: 7.318
mph: 65.31
finish: 11.055

third run

reaction: .907
60: 2.822
330ft: 7.437
mph: 64.38
finish: 11.198

fourth run

reaction: .837
60: 2.845
330ft: 7.463
mph: 64.84
finish: 11.250

5th run

reaction: 1.036
60: 2.736
330ft: 7.383
mph: 63.83
finish: 11.174

6th run , bracket race elimination

reaction: 1.113 ( asleep at the wheel )
60: 2.731
330ft: 7.170
mph: 65.12
finish: 10.884 ( figure that )

not too bad for a 05 2.0 with exhaust and intake , 105k miles and bald front tires. my main problem was no traction in first gear , track was very cold and slick at the begining. and on my last run i hit the rev limiter shifting from 2nd to third , so i couldve done a split second better. but for my first time i think i did alright. it was really fun and very addictive and ill be doing it all the time next year.

oh yea , there werent really anytuners , mostly gassers and v8's and trucks. there was a toyota paseo auto that was running 11.8's , and a turbo civic with dual fart cans that only did a few passes but the quickest one i saw was a 10.

i live in maine too and i've been there several times but never run. I'd love to try next year if the focus hasn't exploded by then.
