How much $$ to replace alternator.

I need an alternator on my 2003 ZX3 Zetec & am not sure I am going to tackle the job. Physical limitations may keep me from doing it. If you have had a Ford dealer replace your alternator,, how much was the total cost ??

I had Ford do my old SHO that was about 500 bucks. Honestly thought it was a waste of money but I was very unfamiliar with the SHO motor.

you can do it urself if you have basic hand tools, its not tough, but prolly about 2 hours of labor at max plus the cost of the alt. so i would imagine about 300 bucks.

considering they charge over 300 just for the alternator, and bout 3 hours labor..id say around $500 or so..give or take....

can do it yourself for about $150 if you have basic tools...

Hey man, I was going to do it myself, but I ended up getting the first done by this mechanic of mine...400 bucks including labor, he ended up giving me a deal on the second one when it died (because of a bad wire) for about 300. Just gotta look around and see who has a good reputation and value. Even if the cost is more at one place with a better reputation, it might be a safer bet.

I bought one from the junkyard for $50. I went to a mechanic to put it on and cost me 100. Don't go to the dealer. They over charge. And my used one is very stronge.

Not very tough my ass. I had to change mine out in February in a barn with no insulation or heat, and it was 20 degrees outside. The alternator BARELY has any room to pull out from behind the engine, and you have to bend stuff to coax it out.

I paid I think ~$150 to have my alternator rebuilt.

hardest part of changing the alternator is getting it up and out of the engine bay...i have posted many times on the correct position the alternator has to be in order for it to come out between the engine block and strut tower

Can't you just call your local Ford dealer and ask? Wouldn't that provide the most accurate information?
