This translates to ANY car... different power curves and gear ratios will change its trap speeds at different points on the track.
there is no "V8 conversion"... were talking about a stock focus here, not some turboed/built honda who spins through 3rd gear and will gain 30mph on the backhalf of the track. ive seen many FWD cars running the 1/4... and it usually takes them around 90mph to run mid - low 15s. theres NO WAY this focus is going to make up 34mph or so on the last eigth to get anywhere close to what you guys think it will run

regardless, i listed my bone stock 84' Z28s eigth mile data to show that a 305 thirdgen, with 20hp LESS than the 91/92 version shown in the video, couldve outran his Focus. you simply cant argue this... a 10.6 at 56mph Focus will not will beat a 10.2 at 68mph Camaro. if the car in question had really been a 305, he wouldve at least kept up, if not passed the focus, in the eigth mile if my slower 305 couldve. it must have been a V6 that he ran to launch on equal terms, and then continue lose by 4+ lengths. a 170hp/240tq car just wouldnt have been pulled like that

seriously, go run on a full 1/4 mile track... or better yet, have some guys on this site pull out old 1/4 mile time slips that DID run 15s and compare 1/8 mile data to this guys run. i believe your eyes will be opened

this is ridiculous. coming from a guy who used to be a GM fanboy (owned 2 LT1 TA's), everybody knows that the 305 3rd gen cars are garbage. my buddy had one and couldn't get that thing to run better than a 17 second 1/4 mile...so it doesn't suprise me that he walked away from that junk box. my stock SVT keeps up with STOCK 5.0 mustangs, and those things eat 3rd gen cars for lunch.

as for as the LT1 race, my car went 14.3 @ 99 at 2300' (LACR) spinning out the hole with just intake/exhaust. im not saying he can't hang with them...but i'd sure like to see a video of the race

thirdgen 305s come in many flavors... ranging from the 82' LG4 with 3speed auto (145hp) to the 92' 305 TPI 5speed (235hp). none of those cars SHOULD run 17s, as my 84' carbed 305 (150hp) ran a 16.0 at 85 when it was 100% bone stock

remember the 350TPI was availible in the late thirdgen cars... it was a drivers race between the 87 - 93 fox body stangs and the 87 - 92 L98 fbodies. both were mid 14 sec cars... what do SVT Focus's run?

14.3 at 99 seems a little slow for a intake/exhaust LT1... maybe it was your 2300' DA that caused it? my ex's ran 13.6 at 102 with a K&N CAI and a SLP loudmouth catback

Right you are about the numbers, tpi... I found a number of stock and intake/exhaust Focus STs running better 1/8th mile times than the OP's. I already know a Focus ST can do 15's stock in the quarter; the problem was I never bothered to check what the 1/8 mile times were.

Sounds more like all the cars at this track were running slow. A 2.3L Focus is still going to outrun an LO3 or LG4 thirdgen.

see?

guys, im not here to bash Focus's (in fact, i havent insulted them in my posting here), ive just been racing for the last 10+ years and have tons of experience at the track... i could tell from the ET/mph that something here just didnt add up

if 2.3L Focus's run mid - low 15s then they will beat stock or near stock LG4s/L03s. however, its going to take more than the OPs 10.6 at 56mph to beat one

At moroso there was a guy running one is bracket racing. Dialed in at 19.xx and hit it every time. The slowest car can win LOLz.

Plus, we are also talking runs in August here....high humidity and temps in FL....kill times.

I went back and looked at my fastest 15.9xx at 86 or 87 mph run in the zetec section. 10.289 1/8 at 69 mph. I only gained another 15 mph in the second half the track, but compeletly different engine and power band.

I guess we'll never know for sure if it was a V8 unless they show up at the track together again and someone takes a picture. I know an LG4 could do 15's if the engine and drivetrain are in good shape, but 9 times out of 10, a V8 from the 80's/early 90's isn't going to be pushing that kind of performance anymore. Out of the three thirdgens I've owned, the one '86 LG4 I took to the track couldn't get past mid 16's with a rebuilt carb, MSD ignition, refreshed emissions systems, and a K&N filter in an L69 air cleaner housing. The motor had over 150k miles on it; it was just tired.
