You should re-read your GCR. SCCA reg's = yellow status from the corner station that is displaying until the incident. Once drivers pass that incident, racing is full green.

in regards to your video: You did great and did the right thing.

Also, about 3:30 into the vid, whats that small square looking car in front of you?
That would be a BMW 2002.

I would guess a 1970 - 1973 model.

REALLY fun cars to drive.

They are getting pretty rare. It's not often that you see one on the road. most of them (that I am aware of) are track cars now...

Yea, there were two 2002's there that day, the orange one, and the dark blue one. (which was smoking, not sure why)

They are fun cars, I remember driving one on the street about 25 years ago making a beer run for a party. I was into hot rods back then (1968 396 Camaro SS/RS to be exact), but still thought it was a cool car to drive.

At first I was going to give you crap about your lap times. Then I saw them down to a 2:27. I ran my personal best, a 2:27, at last year's Last Chance. I have an ITA Escort GT (the Green one).

The area the incident happened is called "The Heel of the Boot". A lot happens there. I've spun there a couple times myself (I have a few hundred laps there).

I watched the incident and what you did was very HEADS-UP! You slowed to avoid contact but not so much you'd cause it. That corner is fast and a bit blind if you are really focused (no pun intended), and you dance the car on edge if you do it right. As long as you gave that Miata (Miata = evil car BTW) a chance to get back by, you're fine.
The workers and officials see most everything. If it was close to an infraction, they'd talk to you. Even as an "unofficial" talk.

I think what you did was correct. (now I just have to go vote on the poll)

Anyone that tells you different, sned them to me. I've been there and know the track.

I have some in-car video on my web site. Most of the 9 tracks I've been to are there.

GREAT JOB!!!

They are also expensive to fix these days. Most people have 'horded' the BMW 2002 parts because they know how hard it is to find them. So most of your race 2002s have gone to the 'kinder-friendlier' Vintage racing classes.

I know a guy that had a BEAUTIFUL 2002, and he got sick of the price gouging and bought a *shiver* Spec Miata.

there is nothing wrong w/ spec miata's... I like them because of the lower horsepower, you (the driver) are required to learn how to drive smooth. Smooth = Fast. Same goes for the Pro7 rx7's class, and the Formula Ford's that I drive now.

You mean... "Spec Pinata" ??

Those guys trade more paint than Sherwin Williams on Wall Street...

Yeah, but after a Spec Ford session or Spec/Pro 7 session you don't have to wait for the track to be cleaned of parts.

Don't get me wrong. Spec Miata is fun to watch! I'm even considering a Miata as my next racecar. But in ITA, not SM.

Thanks for the re-assurance. I was really ticked about the comment on youtube and I'm glad most of you are telling me I did well. As a noob racer it's challenging to handle new situations on-track and remember all the rules to the letter.

Since I got into track days/racing I always practice "situational awareness" while driving on the road. It's so important to program your brain to drive subconciously and minimize "thinking" so you can handle incidents like this as best as possible.

I have been lucky so far and have avoided contact with anything except an infield burm @ pocono east that busted up a fog lamp, some plastic bits, and bent the lower rad suppt.

I've got to check out your videos, and BTW, my best lap @ WGI was during practice that day, 2:26.792

I'll keep an eye out for you next year.
