Performance Chip

What is the cheapest performance chip that is good for the money and will actually give some horse power?

nothing that you buy off ebay is going to do anything. if its one of those performance chips that says gain 50hp and 20mpg for 20 bucks thats a scam. the only performance "chip" that does anything is made by SCT for the standard zetec. contact Tom at focus power to order a SCT X-calibrator 2 or 3 along with a tune. its a flasher device that does the same thing as a chip but its cheaper and easier to operate. his screen name on this site is 1turbofocus and he has his own section on this forum called Focus power

if for any reason you dont want to go that route you can go to focus sport and get the same thing from them. in my opinion tom at focus power is better to go to. but thats just me.

Also, even a good tune with an SCT won't give more than a couple of HP on a stock motor. The huge claims for aftermarket chips are BS, unless it is for a turbo engine.

agreed. you wont pick up much hp from a tune on a bone stock motor. you get a tune to make the most out of mods you already have that you arent fully benefiting from

Is that a fact? I would be interested in seeing a before and after dyno chart. I wonder if Tom has any.

this is true more for the SVT's. a standard zx3 wont pick up too awful much if its bone stock but it will still pick up some. but a tune and flasher is just a really nice tool to have anyway. if you have trouble with the car you can read the CEL codes. you can set the 2 step so that you get a perfect launch every time in a drag race, you can set the fans to come on at whatever temperature you want so it heats up faster during winter. it deletes the top speed governor. you can calibrate the speedometer if you have different size wheels from factory. thats not all either but im just tired of listing stuff

So 1. how much does one of these cost? 2. How easy are they to install? And 3. Where can I get one for cheap?

1. about 390.00
2. just plug into your obd port & follow on screen instructions. very easy!!...much easier than any chip.
3. get one CHEAP?? .... good luck with that one
if you go through 1turbofocus you get free updates as you upgrade mods!

^^^ agreed. tom is the only guy i know of who will send you a free tune update whenever you add something new to your car. say your stock right now and you go ahead and get the tune. next week you get header, exhaust, intake, throttle body, and cams. you contact tom, tell him what you did, send him a data log, and he sends you a new tune for free. however this only applies as long as you stay N/A. if you ever add nitrous, or any kind of boost it costs extra for the tune. it also helps that he is arguably the best focus tuner around.
