ok guys i have done some more planning and am kinda bringing the thread back from the dead.

1. unibody framing in front needs measured to allow for square tubing to slide overtop of the partial front unibody

2 i will be using a ford tube axle with a 2" drop on it for the front

3.(with more planning) i am wanting to use a 302 or larger engine using a ford ranger cross brace/engine cradle a ford full size transmission and driveshaft with a ford 8.8 rear end . this would allow the engine to be put further forward on the frame.

i realize i am out there mentally but i can deam and make them a reality once the money starts coming in better

street legality will be the next big issue

Its unique, Ill give you that, but I think you'd be far better off using a traditional A or T base, but thats just me.

I actually kind of like that, the Golf/Rabbit squareness lends itself to the look. I'm still not sure the round modern shape of the Focus would.

BTW anyone notice that weird extra-large Chrysler Sebring grille on something in the background of the pics? WTF...

Remember, building a rat rod involves using whatever you have lying around, or (seriously!) what you can find lying on the side of a road! Beer cans for injector stacks, sewer pipe mufflers, Mexican blankets covering a bench seat you found in the junkyard parking lot (there was one in the local Pick n Pull lot last time I was there).
I think you could turn this into a community event, where FF members drop off stuff they have lying around for you to use. Or troll the back alleys looking for stuff-a friend of mine has a pile of metal racking he is tossing out. That would be a goldmine for a serious rat rodder!

I think thats going a little far. Sure some guys will use a PBR bottle for a reservoir, etc, but the whole rat rod scene has attracted some newbies to the scene who think theyll be "cool" by finding garbage (literally) and installing it on their cars. Going to a junkyard is cool and dandy, but picking up used beer cans on the side of the road and putting them on a "rat rod" is . Being into rods for many years now, Ive seen the scene go from incredible machines like Cleen Rock One's '29 Ford and Voodoo Larry's "Voodoo Diablo", to some questionable rides by newbies who think putting junk on their car qualifies them as a "rat rod". Ive seen ratted out Hondas, Hyundais and Jeep Wranglers and its getting stupid. Sorry, hot rods died in the 60s, but the scene carries on PROPERLY by those who build their rods to be period-correct.

earlier in the thread there was discussion of chopping the top. Just wanted to add that as cool as that would be, on older cars all the glass was flat laminated glass it could be easily cut and replaced. todays cars all have tempered glass in all windows (except the windshied which is still laminated) which means it cannot be cut. In addition all of he glass is curved and not flat. Glass would have to be custom made by a glass manufacturer and that would cost a crap ton. that is one mod on the rat rod I would shy away from.

a newer car ratted out is a modern rat and you are talking about a traditional hot rods

i look at it as if you dare to be different dont let anyone or anything hold you back . if u like the final product be proud ifnnot you know better next time around
