Question broken breaks

so yesterday i was driving and i started hearing a popping noise coming from my back tires, once i got going like 20mph it would start popping well today i was driving and it got worse, and of course it had to happen on a day when its a blizzard out side. but anyways i stopped at the mall and went to pull on my e_break and it was super tight so i thought great my back breaks are screwed, or that the pads broke apart and jammed everything up or maybe a spring came off. well when i got to driving again the rear wheels are now locked up and will not turn at all. has anyone every had this problem before and if so where should i start?

Sounds like maybe your pad jammed into the rotor causing your BRAKES to lock up. I've seen this happen on fords before when the rear pads are allowed to wear excessively.

If you have rear discs pulling the tire off could show the problem. I'm guessing you have drum brakes out back and if there still locked there not going to come apart easy!

pound that drum off with a big old hammer, and some cloth so it doesnt dent or bang it up so bad. and then see what the problem is, but...getting that drum off is your first step, unless it's the e-brake cable and you cut it.

Sounds like the parking brake may not be releasing. That can be either a cable issue or a mechanism/linkage issue at the drum.

Do you like your radio loud? I'll bet that bearing was howling long before it locked up.

All Hell broke loose inside that drum. I had a problem a couple of years ago when my e-brake kept locking up in the winter. When it got extremely cold outside my e-brake cable literally froze inside the sheathing and wouldn't come undone until it thawed out. What could have happened was you had the e-brake handle all the way down but the e-brake wasn't disengaged inside the drum. You drove around a couple of days like that and it just heated up enough to destroy everything inside there. But if you say it was the wheel bearing like you say it was, you should have heard that longggg before it went out.
