Duratec Engine Cover DIY...56K friendly.

I know I'm not the only guy around here who could do mods like this.....so if you want one, you'll have to wait for somebody to start selling them, or make one yourself. This is a demo unit, just sitting on there for now. I need to construct an inner framework to strengthen the sheet metal, and a mount bracket for the engine.......both relatively easy.

I've got about $5 in it so far, plus the Ford emblem that's just sitting on there. I slapped the stripes on (vinyl tape), for the photo. The thing isn't even painted...the color is how it comes.

I don't know if I'll finish it up......I've got a Mazda cover on there for now. This is just a little project to show how easy it would be. So far it's taken about 1/2 hr using a pair of Weiss tin-snips.

Anybody interested?

Nothing at all......you can see two of the three mount pegs in the photo. I was/am curious just how this thing will look, and how easy it would be to make one.

Really...if you want one, make it. There are tons of options.

You'll laugh I know......but it doesn't matter what these things started out to be. What matters is how they end up.

It's a small steel cookie sheet from Walmart......I cut off the edges (the part you would lift). It's thin gauge metal....hence the need for a strengthening inner frame (some steel or aluminum stock, epoxied on). The mount bracket for the engine would be attached to two of the valve cover studs. There would be two screws through the cover (on the sides of the Ford emblem).....these would go into the engine mount bracket.

The underside of the engine cover would be covered with a layer of fiberglass matting....also from Walmart. This is to cut down some engine noise. That's the design anyway, but the only thing finished so far is what you see.

Gravity......

This is only a demo.....trying to show you what is possible. The mount is described in this thread a few posts up, but not constructed, not yet anyway.
