Hi Newbie here

I spent the last 3 weeks reading old posts and am learning so much about the SPI (had thought I couldnt do much about the lack of power.
It appears the P$P is everones fav for the most bang for the buck ! Now Im on a tight budget so spending $800 cdn (live in Calgary,Canada)is a big deal, what am I getting for that? how much etxra power in the low and high end (need some passing and hill climbing power on the highway)
I have a short air ram coming , no other mods are done.
P.S. I will try some of the "Free" tweaks that I have found so far , thank U all for that.

2003 LX sedan base model ( not even a cd player

Hey I got a BOMZ CAI from E-bay for fifty bucks. It works if you have a few hand tools.

I too am in the same boat with lack of funds, so Far I've done the Bomz CAI, I am working on getting a modified 65mm Stang TB, i've done the IMRC mod (which is nice), and just orderd an MBRP cat back exaust. I am saving up for head work, going to get bigger valves, new cam, gonna deck the head to get higher compression, ect... If you get the right work done on the head you will be really happy with the results, the next best thing is try to find a turbo manifold for the old escort 1.9ltr engine it will work on our spi's and for near $1500us to $2000us you could have a sweet turbo setup on the spi, I know the turbo setup is probably alot of money it is for me thats why I am saving up for the head work first but I know I'll never be happy with it so I will eventually go FI with a turbo setup.

I'll do a search for the IMRC mod (see what that involves)
Turbo setup is interesting to me Do I have to upgrade the cams , pistons ( the bottom end) for the turbo or will the stock engine handle it ?

thanks for the reply .

The stock engine can handle a little bit of boost i've seen some Escorts boosted with 12 to 15 psi on a stock internal engine with only with a little bit of work done to the head, and a different cam.

from what i have read, the SPI can handle about 6-7 psi with no engine work. You could go SC instead of turbo if you really want, but right now turbo is the cheapest and easiest.

I eventually hope to SC the SPI simply because no one else has. (that i am aware of)
