os for laptop for sct pro racer

i just purchased a cheap laptop from a pawn shop to use with the pro racer software... anyone having any issues running pro racer on vista... according to sct you cant run it on 64bit vista or xp <yet...> but i was wondering if anyone is having problems on 32bit vista since im wiping out the laptop and deciding weather to use xp or vista. any recommendations on which os works better with pro racer?

Here's an idea and you'll get a free OS out of it (for a few months at least).

Search google for Windows 7 RC and download that. You'll need a DVD burner to make a disk and a DVD player on that laptop to install it so it may not work if it's a really ancient laptop. However 7 is better on slower machines and is supposed to have better compatability than Vista. So that would give you a way to try it without buying or "buying" Vista lol.

Other than that I can't say.

XP is the easiest but it will work with vista 32 as long as you have user account control disabled and are installing as administrator.

i read sct faq and i read that you can use it on vista 32 like you said as long as your disable uac and install as admin like you mentioned i was just wondering which it runs better on...<less crashes...faster speeds...easier compatibility...i also read somewhere that someone said using livelink worked better on xp> as this computer will only be used for sct software and i have system builder editions of both xp pro and vista so i really can just choose which i want... just wanting to avoid having any issues by choosing better os for it now...

If it's a cheap laptop I'd really be looking at XP in the first place. Vista and 7 will use up a lot of system resources in comparison.

I have 3 test machines that I run our software on (XP, vista 32 and vista 64) and I prefer XP. I am just not a fan of vista in general and the XP machine I have had longer. I do not notice any speed differences between the 3 nor do I see many crashes with one over another. My computers are not spec'd near yours either so you should be fine with either vista 32 or XP really.

It doesn't yet in release form but that doesn't mean we aren't working on it.

Just an FYI but I work for SCT and am one of the main test engineers.
