Installing Automatic Headlamp System

So I'm thinking about buying the Automatic Headlamp System from Ford's accessory website.

My question is, has anybody here actually installed on of these before. Can i get some instructions or advice?

Also, if I were to bring it to a dealer or some place to get it installed, how much would it cost. Does anybody have an idea?
thanks

I just installed this on my car, and it's pretty sweet. I won't say it's the easiest install, but I could give you some pointers and maybe it will be easier for you. You have to find and splice into about 8 wires, most under the dash either in the ignition harness or kick panel. It will help if you have a multimeter to find the wires you need. The hardest one to get to is the wire to the parking brake switch. This is so your lights will not come on (DRLs or full headlights) until you release the parking brake. Someone on another thread was saying he didn't like his because at a drive in movie, he couldn't turn the car on (for a/c or to roll down windows, etc) without his headlights coming on. The parking brake switch on this system solves that problem. I have no idea what your dealer might charge, but it might be worth looking into.

The Control Module with a pigtail of about 8 wires on it, a little bag of conncetors and multi-lingual instructions. There was a grid that showed what color and where to find the wires you need to splice into for most Ford cars & trucks, but the Focus for some reason wasn't on there. So that's why it took me a little longer to figure out what wires to connect to. Other than that, the instructions were pretty clear.

So i'm planning on installing this myself. Were there any problems that you ran into, any difficult parts of the instalation? Or was it all pretty straight forward and simple?

Any tips would be helpfull.

The hardest part for me was getting to that parking brake switch/wire, which included having to remove the center console. I'm not sure how hard yours will be to get off (my SVT console is different than yours), but that should be your biggest obstacle. I don't think it is a must-do, so you might try without it to see how it works. It would just make your DRLs come on immediately when you start the car. Actually I think there is a 3-4 second delay for the sensor to determine if it is dark or not. BTW, is your car manual or auto trans? If it is auto, you may never use your parking brake anyway - I know a lot who don't - so that might decide for you. If you still want to do the PB switch with an auto, it may be harder than a manual to get off, and I can't help you much there. Enough about the PB switch.
Of the remaining wires, one (ground) is best to go behind the kick panel. You will see a couple of wires bolted to the body there, undo one and put the ground wire (in an eye connector) on the bolt to. The other 5 or 6 wires all went to either the headlight switch (which is easy to get to) and the ignition wire harness (kinda easy, but the wires are in there tight). To get to all of these you will want to take off the panel under the steering wheel. 4 screws and its off, but to take it out you have to unhook the connector under the fuse door and unbolt the hood release. Next take off the small panel around the headlight switch that includes the left a/c vent. There is one screw then just pop it out (there are 2 or 3 clips) and tilt to left to get vent out. Then 3 screws on headlight switch. Here is where you will need a multi-meter to find the wires the instructions call for. I mounted the module with the little tie straps that come with it to one of the metal frame pieces of the dash.
The only other real issue I had was where to hook one wire that was supposed to go to the 'multi-function' switch - ie hi-beam, low-beam switch. I still haven't found that one for sure, but after trying without it, I found that I could just wire it to the same as the head light wires and it worked fine.
Well, that should be enough to either get you started or get you thoroughly confused. I will try to post some pics of where I put the day/night sensor.

I tried finding the posts I got this from but I couldn't so here is the text. It should help with wiring, but doesn't have everything.
