I don't have any oil leaks anymore (just the crankcase vent spitting oil like crazy); VCT solenoid o-ring was shot, got a new one from Advance for 49 cents, worked perfect.

I might have to upgrade the 20oz mtn dew bottle to a 2-liter to make it over to the farm, charles... Or stop a few times to empty it.
If it is spitting oil that bad I wouldnt drive it , or make it where the oil goes back into the engine , right now your looking at rods and pistons , run it dry and your looking at everything , SVT cores are not cheap , do another compression test , engine may be finished

Tom

Pete- the hose runs up about 8" before going into the bottle.

Tom- thanks for the advice. I've been checking the oil obsessively since I noticed anything was wrong... Also my wife is in Europe with her dad right now, so I've been using her car and leaving the SVT parked.

Compression test will happen before it is driven anywhere...

Could it only be the rings causing that much oil to come out? or could it be something else?

If a ring land is broken it will cause alot of oil to spit since a bunch of the cylinder pressure is blown into the crank case due to the boost.
With vct problems your going to get wierd compression readings, at least I did.
Easiest way to tell is run about 50 psi of air into the cylinder at tdc with the oil cap off and all plugs out. If you feel or hear air come out of the oil cap you have ring probs or a hole in a piston. If it comes out an adjacent spark plug hole or the coolant your head gasket is toast. out the exhaust or intake its bad valves. do all 4 cylinders this way. and don't use much more air pressure, it'll push the piston down and youll have to start all over.
I made an adapter out of an old spark plug, 8" piece of 3/8" (may have been quarter inch) a small ball valve (not really needed unless doing leakdown) and an airhose fitting. Simple yet effective

Thanks for the replies, and yes, if I was NA then bad rings would cause burning oil, but bad rings with boost cause symptoms like mine.

I have a leakdown tester. This is on the list of things to do.

I should have time to get to this tomorrow after work (or before, muah ha ha)

It is very common for the VCT Solenoid to leak oil when they break

Tom

what's different about them?

It's the same mechanism just on the intake cam instead of the Exh

WOW I DID NOT KNOW THIS!

This sounds A LOT when I blew my first.

A compression test is a must. I think your #1 cylinder finally let go.(Which ever one was 90 last time)

Hey Matt I just purchased a new trailer, its a hydraulic flatbed that lifts up and sets on the ground you drive on then the beds goes back on the trailer with car.

If we need to trailer it down here to the shop let me know, that wouldn't be a problem.

Also I think in your case a compression test would be better than leak down. Also faster.
