$700 for 30,000 mile service!!!

Is what I was quoted when I took my car to the dealership. Now, I've been going to this dealership for 20 years, and you'd think they'd know me by now. I gave them "the look" and said, "Bullshit! I want an ATX flush, a new fuel filter, and an oil change, that's it!!" I then told them which mechanic I wanted working on my Focus. This service counter guy was a noob at this dealership. I immediately complained to the service manager, and he explained that he was reading off the Ford recommended 30,000 mile service for my Focus. I then told him that my owner's manual, and his computer don't jibe.

Now what I didn't ask, was what the hell other services would they be doing to rack up a $700 bill? Do any of you care to guess?

DAMN! The blinker fluid, I forgot to change that!

If I wasn't a broken down fat old man, and I had a garage, I would do the work myself.

That's pretty typical......what some dealerships call a "major" service, doesn't necessarily follow the owner's manual. They just added in a bunch of expensive services, that probably aren't in the manual.

The point is....many people just go by what the dealer recommends, and never touch the owner's manual. That's how a dealer makes big money. It pays to learn a little about maintenance.....

Expensive services you may not need on a major service...

Brake system flush
Coolant flush
P/S flush
Battery service
wheel balance
Alignment
Spark plugs
ATF flush
Drive belt
etc....

$50.00 Air Filter change (even on the 09 PZEV Focus)

$60.00 Wheel bearing adjustment

$65.00 Replace axel grease

$80.00 Fill new tires with laughing... I mean nitrous oxide (gots to keep those tires happy)
