What lug nuts do I need?

I have a base ZX5 with steel wheels and I just picked up a set of alloys for cheap. I know they take a different nut for the alloys.

Who can tell me what to ask or look for when I go to the auto parts place to get lug nuts?

The wheels I picked up are the standard 15" alloys with the five double spokes.

why would you need different lugnuts? if you're going from the stock 14" steelies to the stock 15" split 5-spoke, the lugnut should be the same. yeah, the old ones are ugly, but the center cap on the new rim should cover it.

it you need to get new ones, though, i'm pretty sure the thread is M12X1.25. to be safe, take an old one with you so they can get the right thread. just some cheap open-ended style should work.

Nope, lug nuts for steel rims are a different shape where they meet the wheel. The nuts for steel wheels have a conical face whereas the nuts for alloys are square shouldered. You can damage the wheel if you use the wrong type of nut.

oh, ok. i know what you're talking about now. still, if you just take that original lug to the parts store and explain what you need, they should be able to help you out NP.

Mmmm... I don't think that always true. I've seen alloy rims with forcing cones on the lugs, in fact, I'm not sure I've ever seen any square ones. I know my SVTF has coned lugs and I'm 95% sure those rims are alloy.

I should have said some lug nuts for steel rims...
Out of a dozen or so cars I've owned over the years only two have had alloy wheels. Both had shouldered nuts but they were both older cars and two cars is far from a good sample of what's common these days.
I know that Ford shows different part numbers for lugs for the alloys but that could be the finish or maybe the lugs for the alloys are some sort of security lugs. I guess I'll get the wheels in hand and see what I need.
