underdrive pulley, dampener?

correct em if im wrong but i have heard that the weight of the stock crank pulley acts like somewhat of a dampener to the engine prolonging its life. im just curious because i want my car for a long time

i've heard that the stock crank pulley has a rubber ring or something to act as a dampener. I think the UDP doesn't have that. But there are people are the boards that have been running a UDP for 20k miles and no problems out of the motor yet.

The UDP's don't harm the zetec engine.

There are people with tons of miles on their car without a problem.

My car for example has had a UDP on it for 43k miles.

I wish a Ford engine Engineer would come here and set the record straight on why that rubber peice is on the crank pully and what effect it may have if removed.

Since Ford tests their engines, they had to have a test or something to see what happens when that rubber peice is not on the crank pully.

There's a reason that rubber peice is on there and apparently, no one really knows but everyone speculates about it.
