2009 SE question

Well I rented a car last week because I was going on vacation and didnt want to put the miles on my car. I made my reservations online for a Standard G6 or comparable car. Low and behold I go to pick up the car and the guy gives me a Ford key that looks just like mine. We walk outside and find out it's a Focus.

It was a automatic 2009 SE with about 40k+ miles, my first time driving a newer fofo(mine is an 07).

Well my first complaint was that it didnt have cruise control(not that my car has it but figured all rental cars should) My gf's first impression once she got in the car was that it looked cheap, made me kind of laugh. She doesnt think my interior looks bad but she recently bought a '10 mazda 3, so i guess thats what she was comparing it to. We both liked the way the exterior looked. The car seemed louder than mine at highway speed, I noticed the window weather stripping looked kind messed up. But the engine noise seemed louder too. I think the thing I like best about the car was the serius radio. Really liked not having to change cd's or mess with the ipod(although the line in is nice)

Anyways, I was setting up the trip odometer, since I wanted to track the mgp and how many miles we put on the car. Notice there was some newer features here. My question is about their mpg thing. When I dropped the car off it said we averaged about 36 mpg where as my calculations put it much closer to 32 mpg. I had kept all gas receipts and had been tracking it with each tank. We did about 1700+ miles over the week, I was happy to get 32 mpg, especially since we average about $2.60/gallon most of the trip.

So for those of you with this car, how accurate is it? Or is it just meant as a gauge? I thought the miles left to empty was a nice feature, really helped to time gas stops.

My computer tends to give a ~4% optimistic mpg estimate from true.

My Fusion is off by about 5MPG on a consistent basis. But I don't hold it against it, since it is modified.

I don't know about the interior, I have an 09 Coupe and I've had it for just about over a year now (got it new) with about 14k miles and the interior still looks fine. Maybe it's just because I'm the only one that rides in the car and I do take care of it. But as long as you clean the interior, I think it's fine. In fact, I think it's better than recent Corolla's and the like.

I agree. I took a road trip with a friend and his roomate to Colorado a couple months ago. His roomate drives a G35 and he complimented my cars interior, and how spacious it was for a coupe. And on the way back home from Colorado we hit snow going up I-70 west of Denver and didn't get stuck (doing anywhere from 30-40mph in 4th and still getting wheelspin). After that he said "I have a new respect for the Focus" lol.

If you've ever driven a Hyundai accent, Colbalt, or Corolla the focus'es interior is alot nicer.

Although i will admit the mazda3 has the best and Civic has a little nicer interiors.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting much out of a rental car. Inside wasnt as clean as the outside. I spent time with some armorall as soon as I was done loading up the car. Figured I was going to be spending a week with it, might as well have it nice looking. I thought it was pretty decent overall, think I was just used to driving and being in my own Focus. I did like testing out a newer version though.

From other similar cars, I do prefer the Focus. Although I am pretty biased
