I need BOOOOST!!!!!!

eh some people just seem to hook better than others. i also went under the assumption he was driving a standard zetec focus. apologies on the bad info about shifting at 6500rpms you make max power at 7. however my advice on the launch with street tires is accurate so long as you're launching with traction control OFF. with the standard street tires on a 17x7 inch rim which comes standard on an SVT you will spin like hell if you launch at 5k rpms. on standard 15x7s with my zx3 it would spin like it was on ice dumping the clutch at 3k. i would assume the bigger rims hook up a LITTLE better but no way you're getting a good launch at 5k rpms without LSD and/or drag radials
also you are correct about SVT's being faster than the 04 body style Si's. the Si has more top end power with just a few bolt ons like header, exhaust, and intake, but the SVT has WAY better torque. they will however eat a stock zx3 alive unless there is a dummy driving it. sorry to argue but the SVT just doesnt respond as well to bolt ons as the Si's do. header and exhaust you're looking at a 20hp gain on the Si just because stock is so restrictive due to emissions. you cant do much for headers on the SVT because it already pretty much has the best, and if you go much bigger you're loosing back pressure after 2.5 inch exhaust. so with exhaust you might get 5hp out of a SVT. same way with intakes i hate to say. sorry but the SVT is already nearly maxed out N/A Si is rated at 160hp at 6500rpms and 132 lb-ft torque at 5000 rpms at the flywheel weighing in at 2782lbs curb weight SVT is rated at 170hp at 7000rpms and 145lb-ft torque at 5500rpms at the flywheel weighing in at 2750lbs curb weight EDIT: and you can take the weight factor out as well because when was the last time you saw a great big fat man in a Si with a full interior? sure i see that every day when i get into my car and look in the rear view mirror but whenever i see civics they usually have teeny tiny skinny asians with a stripped interior sitting on a milk crate with a 5 point racing harness... okay so i went a little far there but you get what im saying.

read the last post i made. post #12. dirtbrown is talking about slipping the clutch on launch im talking about dumping it. yes the svt's can beat the NEW si's quite easily. it can be done with a zx3. very heavy cars is my only clue why they are so slow. ill look up curb weight on them right quick

08 SI makes 197hp @ 7800 rpms and 139 tq @ 6100. weighing in at 2945lbs curb weight.
so its a combo of their lack of torque and added weight that kills them. interesting. EDIT: dunno why he was pulling you. id been going out for quite awhile pulling them with a basically stock zx3. mods at the time were LSD, flywheel, clutch, intake, TB, header, exhaust, ported manifold, tune, wider tires, and i think that was about it. i hung with them then and now with just a 35shot they get left in the dust.

only thing i can think of is that either they have been stripped or have more work done than they let on or your car isnt putting the power down that it should. the SVT does have really tall gears though which would make it slower to accellerate at higher speeds which might give an Si the advantage over it and might be the reason i dont have so much trouble. mtx is geared lower than the getrag.
