Question Launch

I went to the races on saturday I ran a 2004 honda civic si hatch he beat me by like a car, he said that the only thing that he had done was the cold air intake and exaust, but it looked like he had more, all I have done to mine is CAI, screamin demon coil pack and live wires. Now when I launch I got him a little but I still broke the tires loose, I launched at like 3500 and I shift at 7000 rpms. My question is where should I launch and shift at on my 03 svtf, because power to wait I should have beat him, if all he had was CAI and exuast.

if by breaking the tires loose you mean you strait up spun the heck out of them you need to launch at around 3k. if they just barked a little and then you're off thats good. when you roll up to the water box dont pull the ebrake and smoke the crap out of the tires. just pull up into the box rev and dump the clutch and spin until you feel the tires grab and then stop. ive found that a breif hazing on regular street tires makes it hook much better than driving around the water box without spinning or sitting there making a smoke show. try shifting at 6500rpms instead of going with the ricer method of winding it out as far as it will go.

I would run it that hi either. The Focus is not a Honda, Hondas are made to rev super high, where a Focus isnt. 6000-6500 is best in a SVTf.

BTW Civic Si's are fast.

You need to slip the clutch, ideally, you don't want any tire slippage. I ran against a brand new SI, he ran a 14.98, i ran a 14.89!! he was so confused!!! lol

the brand new Si is much heavier than the 2004 body style. ill eat the new ones alive on a daily basis but the older ones give me problems.

alot of misleading info in this thread already....i launch my SVT at 5k....only way to get the bastard off the line in a timely fashion....I also rev my SVT to 7100RPM before I shift....the power is there until redline.

X2

BTW 04 Si hatches are way slower than SVT's. I beat a guy with an 04 running with I/E. I was still stock. He ran a 15.8 and I ran a 15.6.
