LED Fog Lights

Hey All,

My fog light bulb died. I will be holding a funeral tomorrow, however.. I am interested in LED ones now, such like the ones on ebay,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2x-Ca...Q5fAccessories

Did anyone do this yet? Any comments? I have an 07 Focus ZX5, I think they would look awesome.. All white and brights... and modern. let me know!

SPZ

we are currently designing these for several applications including the focus fog light application. i can't speak for those particular bulbs, but many lower end LED fog light bulbs do not have the output higher end ones do. While those may work, I dont know if they would be as bright as your OEM bulbs would be.

The reason we are developing a new generation fog light LED is to give an alternative lighting option that is in a price range between OEM halogen and HID.

At that price, it may be worth a shot, but with a lot of things in the aftermarket lighting industry, you typically get what you pay for.

Good luck!

also, i see those are only 18 LED. The bulb we are working on is a 68-70 LED model.

i think they wouldnt be bright enough in regular housing. they would work better in a projector style fog light.....kinda like them LED flashlights. I could be wrong tho. Give em a try write a review.

LEDs are not bright enough to work for headlights or foglights. Dont waste your money. If they where bright enough I would think some higher end cars would be using them. And they desribe them as HID bulbs.

^^^ Very true

however...I believe the new 2010 Toyota Prius has LED Headlights as an upgrade option.

They were using HIDs at a headlight upgrade for 08 and 09

They do make high output LEDs, however those listed in the auction are not.

We have been doing prototyping with LEDs for off-road applications. They offer much greater output than HIDs, and are better suited for dealing with the tortures of Baja-type racing applications, but are very pricey.

So, it is possible to have H.O. LEDs.

^^I heard Lexus has used them for headlights in some of their cars already, although that is just what I have heard....

Lexus is releasing vehicles (i think they have, or soon will be releasing an SUV) equipped with LED technology headlights.

One of the big issues historically has been with the HO LEDs, maintaining core thermal temperatures. LEDs do not like to operate above 80 degrees, contrary to what most think that LEDs put off little to no heat. For your typical HO LED, you see a lifespan of ~50,000hours, but if you raise the core thermal temperature to around 90 degrees, you cut that lifespan by more than half to around 20,000 hours.
