Average cost of transmission rebuild 05 ST

Just took my car in to the shop. Prior to this, for about a month, my car would pop out of first and second gear and occasionally would grind even though it was in the proper position.

Driving today, my car became stuck in 4th gear. Had it towed to a highly reputable shop.

I realize many things can be wrong with a transmission, but I was wondering if anyone has had experience with a transmission rebuild around 100k miles. If so, how much did you pay? The guy at the shop gave me a ball park from 2k to 3k for a rebuild. Does this sound reasonable?

Car has 105k miles. A new clutch was put in a few years ago and after that I drove the car very conservatively. Any questions please ask.

I would take my chances with a junkyard take-out rather than spend $3k for a transmission for a car that's only worth $4k.

and then just pay someone to install it?

Not a bad idea IF I can find one. I'll call this Ford junkyard near my house tomorrow.

I've never heard of manual transaxles going bad, just the clutches.

Like elsolo said I'd be looking for a desent one in the wrecking yard. $2000.-$3000. sounds like the price of a auto trans rebuild, then a standard trans. You should be able to find one for about $400.-$600.

i just bought a used tranny for my 07. Costed me 350$ with 80,000km (canadian) which i thought was a fair price. My original was just starting to get rough. 2nd would stick half way in and grind if i didnt put in hard enough and that had 155,000km.
I just swaped my engine/tranny out and that costed me 2300$ total thats with Exedy OE clutch, Motor, transmission and labour.

I'd definitely go with a junk yard.

Still probably going to 1000$ fix though

Well after spending 5 hours today I had some luck. I found a used 07 transmission for $400 with 51k miles. The dismantler place connected me with a mechanic who would install it for $230 (including oil).

I sincerely hope i'm not getting ripped off here. I imagine they might say I need a new clutch, but I just replaced it last year.

$250 seems really cheap to install a transaxle, but I know nothing about repairing transmissions.

What i would do is call a couple known shops and see what it would cost for them to do the job.
Then you can compare prices at least.

Too late. They worked on it today, and will be finishing it tomorrow.
