Turbo tuning

I have a 2.0 duratec im going to turbocharge and tune with SCT Pro racer software. I have a wideband A/F guage and boost guage. I want to keep the stock MAF and use a blow-thru setup.

My question is where do I need to start with tuning? Is there a standard for changing the timing based on psi of boost? and on RPMs? Do i need to make adjustments to the MAF senor so it can read boost? how much % fuel do i need added for every psi of boost? other important things?

Right now I made a tune for my car that I have had on it for almost two years that takes into account my 42lb fuel injectors, removed rear o2 from my cat, and has advanced timing. But turbo is a lot more complex than those simple things, I assume. If i cannot make a decent tune, I will more than likely have focuspower tune it in NC

is focus power still dyno tuning? I thought Tom was in Mexico? I bet John (03OrangeSvt) could give you some advice

You have a lot of re-scaling to do, you will need a larger maf tube (scale the MTF by the ratio of radius^2) and/or a diablosport mafia (scale injector slope and engine displacement according to instructions), plus you have to re-scale a bunch of tables to read over 1.0 load

start with your maf transfer function it is THE most important part of the tune, make your fuel changes here to even out stft in closed loop and to make afr match your base table in open loop.

spark is going to be different for every engine and configuration, air flow / load is more important than psi. This is where people get paid to tune, this is the challenging part.

Youre going to need to play with the open loop transition if you get a bunch of part throttle boost.

since your downpipe will change the location of the front o2 you may have to mess with transport delay depending on your setup

Overall I would recommend you start messing around while youre still NA, its a lot easier to make mistakes when youre boosting.

you could check out VMP Tuning.

I don't have tuning experience with them (for the most its actually more of a him (Justin, owner) than them), but they are near SCT headquarters, seem pretty knowledgeable on the SCT forums, and have tuned an array of vehicles (according to posts and their website)

Just an FYI, you can know everything there is to know about the SCT software and tuning in general and you will still be a newbie if you are doing your first Focus.

I read on some turbo build thread the guy that used to tune for c-f-m is tuning their turbo zx3. might be worth looking into... Have you thought about getting Tom to remote tune it?? He's your best bet IMO
