:::HELP::: Power steering pulley snapped off and belt flew!

here's my problem....

Driving down the road, started hearing this squealing sound on and off.. I feel something smack against the underside of my car...the passenger said it was a rock, then about a mile down the road I notice my car is getting crazy hot so i pull over. Come to find out my belt flew off and my power steering pulley had snapped off! We went back and found the belt on the side of the road and it was shredded

my question is how can I bypass the power steering pulley if I can at all? Because it doesn't look as if I can bypass it the way the pullleys work and it doesn't seem like I'll get much belt onto the crank pulley at all if I do bypass it...

Please help if any of you know what to do because this is our only car and we're kinda stuck right now...

thanks guys/gals

what to do? replace the pump. It took me about an hour. $35 at the junkyard.

Just be sure to get a new teflon seal for the pressure line, and good luck getting the seal around the threads of the fitting.

If you bypass it, then the PS system won't work and you will mess ur ur rack and pinion system. I had the SAME problem, are you sure it "Snapped off" did the 3 screws that bolt the pulley to the pump come off?? thats my guess. thats what happened to me. Those bolts are grade 8, i highly doubt they sheared off. Chances are they became too loose. and the pulley came off. Do you still have the pulley?? are there parts of the screw still in the housing?? if not, then go to ford, get the 3 bolts which i think came to 10 bucks (ya, rip off, i know, but they are a specific size and i didn't bother to hassle w/ the measureing) and rebolt the pulley on, and then put a new serpentine on!! my pully didn't come off and my belt didn't shear. I heard a funny noise, pulled over and found that 2 of the three bolts were gone, and the 3rd was almost out, the belt was off but not shredded. took me and weldman0370 about 1 hour to fix it, was a PITA to get our hands in there.

no, my power steering pulley did snap off, I know its hard to believe but it did. Also, I didn't mind not having PS for a while because I'm already without it (the line broke a while back) but if there's no way around I'll go buy a pump. I just wanted to do a quick fix FTM because I'm already behind on my finances and its our only vehicle.

I guess I'm going to buy a pump now :( my friend lent me his Geo Tracker lol for a while until his dad wants it back and I hate driving it because its out of inspection and registration...

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help

well if you just wanted a quick fix i guess you could get a dead pulley... and put that on. but you would have to find one the same size.... so are the bolts gone or is it just the pulley broke off... pics need pics....
