would this be fine to start on a focus with 170,000 miles on it? I would like to work on a build for my zetec to start then in the near future have a turbo svt/ or wait for the RS in that time lol

GL w/ geting the RS. but you could easily mod. a car w/ 170k. just make sure ur motor is still decent. regular boltons won't hurt the performance of the motor. a turbo might wear it down a bit quicker, but u will be just fine.

a lot of people on here say to go with the svt header or focussport header, but when i check out focuses in mags, car shows, or pics on the forum all I see are shorty headers. Are shorty headers good with a high flow CAT or test pipe? I only ask b/c their cheap(in my price range)pacesetter to be exact.

Agreed, a used race header is the way to go for performance gains... but the shortys do look pretty.
