I have some questions about installing a tune. (from tom)

Ok, i got my device and i think i got the right program online from SCT the X3LW updater

my first question is
1. do i/how do i update the unit.
2. when i try to transfer the file tom sent me in my email the X3LW says "failed to read file" be for i even select anything.
3. do i just plug the xcal into my computer or do i need to tell it that its connected?

^if i'm not making scene then please set me straight.

if you've done this you should make a 'how to' lol cause i need help.

-thank you!

andrew

Ok...here goes...all of this is on our website....

First, which device do you have? I am assuming it is an X3. However, you need to make sure it is an X3 as you would use a different program for updating if it is an X2.

Assuming you have an X3 then yes, you need the X3LWupdater program to do anything. Once installed, it will automatically install the drivers you need for your PC to be able to communicate with the device. However, I would also need to know some specifications on your PC. Are you running windows XP or windows vista? If vista, is it 64 or 32 bit vista? If you are unsure of the last one, most likely it is 32 bit as you really have to try to get a 64 bit machine.

Most likely Tom sent you a file in ll3 format (*.ll3) Save that file somewhere on you computer where you know where it is. To put this file on the X3, connect through usb and open the updater program. Press the "liveload tunes" button. In the box that pops up, press the browse button and locate your ll3 file mentioned above. Select one of the 3 radio buttons for file 1, file 2 or file 3 and type something in the box next to that radio button. This puts the file in that location on the device and labels it with whatever you type in the box. Now press program. If the drivers are installed correctly and you did everything else right you will see the progress bar and the file will then be on your X3.

Press exit when done, disconnect and take the device out to your car. Hook it up to the OBDII port and go to program vehicle, then custom tune....and there is your tune. Follow the on screen instructions from there.
