I like the euro idea!

I just wish I was getting a true euro bumper instead of a collections US spec one

In all honesty, the Yaris looked bad ass with that hook. For towing purposes, a single hook is not practical, and dual hooks would look like... Well, I suppose its all up to opinion.
But I think that once I get a body kit, I'll be installing some sort of towing hook, something like the GTi previously posted.

what i was thinkin is that the suspension is lower than your bumper ... so theres no risk of ripping up a bumper ... like a towtruck hook and winch could pull it onto the flatbed no prob ... no jb weld or gorilla glue ... i think ford used enough on the focus ahah ... like a serious weld to the back suspension ... i think it would serve an awesome function

but for the front ... ideas?

One way for the front would be to mount one on the strut tower. Just make a flange and bolt it on. That's if you don't mind cutting a hole in your hood.

Or welding it onto the beam that sits behind the bumper. Its got to be mounted somewhere solid and highly visible to track officials unless you want to bend/break stuff

I've always used 'tow straps' on my Focus race cars. They allow for clean bump drafting w/o punching a hole in the other guys bumper like with the solid metal tow hooks. Hopefully you won't be doing any bump drafting on your street car, but it's an option, and you can tuck it behind your bumper cover when not in use.

They're strong enough to pull me out of this:

I'll try to get out and take some mounting pics tomorrow, but basically the tow straps are mounted by a single bolt (grade 8). I mounted mine to the steel bumper support behind the bumper cover in the front and the factory tow hook mount in the back. I use the 'hard ring' type strap, but there's also the 'bump draft' type that doesn't have a ring. Search eBay for "SAFEQUIP TOWING STRAP" for pics.

Here are some pics. Sorry for the semi-crappy pics, but I had back surgery two weeks ago and it's kinda hard to get down on the ground and get detailed pics. Hopefully they make sense.

Front strap w/o bumper cover

How front strap is mounted. I drilled a hole up through the bumper brace

Rear tow strap. Make a slight hole in the bumper cover in order to slide the strap through.

Rear tow strap as it comes through the bumper cover

How rear tow strap is mounted to existing bumper bracket/hole

HTH,
Dan

FYI, There's a guy on FJ that's selling a brand new pair of the 'bump draft' SafeQuip tow straps for $25 shipped. That's a helluva deal. On FJ do a search for "Safequip tow straps" or look in the "ForSale -> Appearance" section. I can vouch for the seller, he's a good guy.

I thought for SCCA, they had to be solid hooks, but i may be wrong, for rally america they are supposed to be solid. And ur only real choice is to custom mount them or machine them yourself. unfortunately, there is no bolton for the fofo.
