Hard to shift in 1st and 2nd gear when cold

I asked the dealer if it would solve the problem stated in the title if I flush the manual tranny oil (I have a 01 Zetec 5 speed) with new Ford Synthetic oil for manual tranny, and he said it would not solve the problem. He said all Zetecs with 5 speed manual tranny have this problem. He also asked his mechanics guys and they said manual tranny oil in the Zetec are Synthetics, and this oil is good for life, with no need to replace it.

What do you think about that?

My hard to shift is present for the first 5 minutes when car is cold, after they are back to normal.

My '03 ZX5 suffers the same symptoms. Does anyone have any words of wisdom?

I had the same problem. I just got a steeda short throw, and decided to use different grease in the shifter itself. The factory stuff gets all gummy below around 35 or so,( i put some on cardboard in the fridge. ) I bought some new stuff at autozone that is used for snowmobiles, and now its always smooth and easy.

Oh yeah make sure you get all the old crap off first an clean all the parts really well, and use lots of the new stuff on any part that moves.

Change the oil to the new synthetic stuff from Ford. Yes, its pricey, but it may help and it certainly won't hurt. I change mine every 30-50 K. WHY not?

> I just got a steeda short throw,

Wouldn't a short-throw increase the effort required?
